Trip to Tourneau today

I was at the KOP mall today shopping for the GF. I thought I’d stop in and try on a few pieces. I’ve had my eye on the Big Pilot for almost a year now but always end up going with a SS Rolex sourced by my AD. Right now the only SS model I want is the BLRO and given that my AD can’t promise me one in 2020 I may finally scratch my itch for the Big Pilot. I also tried on a PAM 0692 and was thoroughly impressed. I know Panerai catches some slack in our community but I was blown away by the quality of their rubber strap. The comfort of the strap combined with the weight of the material that the case is made out of made this 47mm wear extremely comfortable. Apparently the case of the PAM 0692 is made of material that is as scratch resistant as ceramic but doesn’t carry the risk of shattering? If a more informed member could chime in that’d be great. I’m not to knowledgeable on PAMs.

Safe to say, these 2 are on my list for 2020.

They even had a Breitling that I was impressed with. There are some great watches outside the Rolex brand. I’ve been such a fan boy I haven’t explored much outside the crown. That needs to change.

I wouldn’t buy any of these brand new though. Their retail price is outrageous. However, lightly worn preowned these are great watches.

Breitling is by far my favorite there.

I would go either Panerai or Iwc, and as you said go pre- owned. Cheers

Of those 3, the Breitling. If you want a PAM, I wouldn’t go with that one. Just not one of their best efforts IMO. And I just cannot get into IWC outside of the bronze pilot they did.

But you are spot on. There are a lot of different choices aside from Rolex.

Three really great watches.

The BMG is really cool. Plenty of info on Panerai’s site: https://www.panerai.com/en/collectio...ch---47mm.html

It's always nice to explore other brands and see what's out there. For me my next is an Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph and I'll certainly be going pre-owned.

If the IWC has always been on your list it might be the way to go.

One of the “classic” models. 111 or 372 or even a 753 if you like the Radiomir case.

I have a 005 but if you want a new one that will have to be NOS as they don’t make them any longer.

But manual wind, clean dial screams Panerai to me.

Oh, and be prepared to have a strap collecting problem.

Absolutely, not even close to retail. I just needed to make sure I could indeed pull off a BP now I buy elsewhere

Same here. However, if I really was forced to choose between these three, I'd absolutely pick the IWC over the Panera bread and the logarithmic ruler.

Love the Big Pilot and have contemplated one myself - always a feeling though that it’s just a little too big.

I don’t have a small wrist but 46mm is a lot to pull off. The lugs can’t go past your wrist width in my opinion.

I always say there’s a reason I end up with another Rolex - you can’t force it with another brand. Rolex just feels right.

I must agree with this, overall.

I’m all for switching it up. Lots of other brands I like.

But I do appear to always come back to Rolex. I tend to like the fit and style the best.

What about an IWC Mark XVIII? Reasonable size and beyond classic.
