How many Rolex go back under warranty?

This question came up in another thread and I am interested to know.

Someone said they reckon it is less than 1/100,000.
I said in that case I must be really unlucky.....

I have owned 5 Rolex and 2 went in under warranty, (one 2 Yr warranty / one 5 year warranty) and one needed work just out of warranty.

What's others experience?

I’ve had 4 new Rolex, 3 professional 1 DJ and a few
preowned all professional, divers to be exact .
None of my new ones needed any warranty work and the
preowned ones were already serviced.

Had to send my ceramic sub in due to the bezel turning in both directions. Actually occurred out of warranty but they fixed it free of charge

Although I have no precise figures either, I can say it is absolutely a number greater than 1:100,000. That would translate to approximately just 10 watches per year worldwide. I see at least that many per year.

As Bas said, it is not a particularly high number considering the production numbers (especially when compared to certain other luxury brands).

It's also worth mentioning that not every watch that is returned under warranty is a warranty problem (ie customer damage) and not every warranty problem is returned by the owner (customer doesn't notice or just lives with it).

My GMT was sent in for warranty around 3 years. It began gaining significant time. Repaired and returned, never told me what the problem was. $#it happens, glad they increased the warranty to 5 years.

In the real world would doubt if many need any real warranty work expect from those who obese about there watches running say +3 or 4 seconds either way a day

Never needed to send any of my Rolex back under warranty, however
I did with a Chopard as the rubber strap split and the oscillating weight came loose, I had to send a Panerai 510 back due to condensation.

I had one under warranty go back in; it was running at +11 which was too much imho. Was it worth the cost of shipping it ($75)? Not really. I hardly call + 11 secs obsessive, fwiw.

Every single DayDate 40 made in the first year or so, had a faulty change-over mechanism. Rolex had to add extra parts to get the movement working effectively.
So I’m not entirely convinced that the return rates are very low ; how can we know? Rolex aren’t going to say a word.

Based on my experience, I’d guess very low. RSC serviced watches are not as solid as factory. Good but not flawless.

Over thirty years I have probably owned 50 different Rolex watches. I have only had two go back under warranty in that time. One was a TT Daytona that stopped dead and the other was a Submariner-C ND that would not keep time at all. My experience is that it is the exception and not the rule.

Two in the last year for me. Both with 3135 movement. One was two minutes slow per day. The other’s date wheel only moved part way at midnight then all the way near 3am. They work great now.

I had to send my gmt 2 back twice as soon as I bought it. First, it came with a chip in the bezel, which had to be replaced, and took 3 months. After I got it back, the watch would randomly stop on it's own, which took another 4 weeks.

Have been wearing it almost everyday for the past 3 months.

It's all good now!

I own 5 Rolex's, most out of warranty, and none have needed service.

My mom always told me I was one in a million!

12 years of ownership since my first one, and since then around 10 in rotation and so far did not have even a single problem. Should add as well that first service I did was in the 9th year, and not because it was running fast or slow but because I was never used for such prolonged service periods. All the rest I worn asked for being serviced every 3 to 4 years.

I’ve had and still have a plethora of Rolex and none have ever had a problem. Many running for +10 years without a service. I sent my Daytona Zenith in after 15 years of ownership because I damaged the bracelet in a bar fight and it was fully repaired (whole bracelet on one side), serviced, new bezel and crystal. Had the incident with the bracelet not happened, It’d probably still be unserviced today. I use the rule, if it aint broke...with all my pieces.

None of these were abused......

1. My Sub LV in 2006 went in under 2yr warranty. Timekeeping went very bad.

2. My BLNR in Feb 2019. Just out of warranty. Sheared screw in movement. I posted a thread about it on here.

3. Wife's Mid Size YM came back last week. Fixed under 5 Yr warranty. Something broke and had a rattle. Crown was also jammed.

Really pleased with the warranty work on all of them. The YM was returned within 3 weeks of us posting it to Rolex London.

Looking at posts above, my current complete guesstimation may be about 0.5 - 2% go in under warranty.

I’ve never had a problem but my mums first Rolex had to go back, It just stopped working completely when it was about 8 months old. Mappin & webb sent it away and it took about 3 months to be returned and when it did they wouldn’t say what had been wrong with it. Apparently they never tell you, it’s all part of the Rolex secrecy front. It always reminds me of the original Charlie and the chocolate factory film with Gene Wilder, “nobody ever goes in and nobody ever comes out.....”

My TOG had to go back just berore the two year after a service warranty period expired, it wouldn't hand wind. No big deal, I got it back after about a month, and it has worked flawlessly ever since, that was about 3 years ago. That's the only one I have ever had to send in for repairs.

no way its 1/100k


My wife has had one rolex and that is in for warranty work now. I have probably had 10.... but really only kept 1 longer than two years and that 1 has gone in too


i would guess its probably 20% over 5 years and that is counting obsessive time keepers for a +3 timekeeping regulation issue.
