Love the Explorer I but need the Date

I love the simplicity of the Explorer I but I must have the date. Smooth bezel, oyster DJ36 black is what I’m thinking. Any other suggestions? Would even consider other brands but I prefer Rolex steep bracelets and clasps.

I actually own the EX1 214270 and find it to be near perfect, EXCEPT I also prefer to have a date. I think the 41mm DJ Smooth Bezel will wear a little closer to the Ex1 than the 36mm DJ. I think it's a good option.

Either way I don't think I will be getting rid of my EX 1 anytime soon, but I'm definitely considering a new Omega SMP. Aesthetically very different, but price point is similar, and the Omega can certainly do it all.

Also really like the Omega Globemaster with Tungsten bezel. Similar look to a DJ but has tons of character and will look great on any strap. The Tungsten bezel is a really cool feature too.

.

I'm a retired Rolex AD and I'm with you, brother.

I suggested the Explorer with a date to Rolex on numerous occasions and they simply ignored my suggestion.

So, I ordered a Rolex Submariner dial and hands and simply put the pair on a Rolex 1601 from my stock.

In my opinion, it's the perfect watch.

I've worn it to Africa and the Yukon on numerous occasions and my "Steve Special" has never, ever failed me.

Blessings,

Steve

Explorer I is an amazing piece. Since you specifically mention DJ36 I am guessing you prefer 36mm to 39mm case size. In the 36 range with a date, I am only aware of the DJ and the Day date. The great thing is that there are so many dial combinations and great pre-owned prices for these 36mm watches. Lots of great watches from other brands in 36mm as it was the most common size before the larger watch craze.

I'm with you.

Had a Exp 34 and 39 and both didn't last. Come to think of it, neither did my Milgauss or AK too...

Yes, I needed to have 4 before throwing in the towel. And then came the Sub. That worked for some reason.

How about an IWC Mark XVIII or even an older 38mm Mark XV?

Very cool, I have a similar project i’m working on. Polar Explorer II dial in a GMT II case. I get my rotating bezel, GMT hand, and a white dial.

You got it right in your original post- black dial DJ 36. So you have some lume, go w the stick dial or the concentric Arabic dial. Get it with an oyster bracelet. Tough, dead cool watch.

Just do a Google search for Rolex 5700 (or 5701 for two-tone) Explorer Date

Same here. Would buy Explorer1 with date in a flash.

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.
