Love it....."I hope Rolex makes a Smurf in SS".....with this planned obsolescence many call for or hope will happen.....why would anyone buy a WG PM piece? They've done it with the BLRO so I wont be shocked.... But if this trend continues, those who spend $30k-$70k for a WG or Platinum watch.....should be warned, Rolex doesn't give a damn. Buyer Beware!

Might be a year or two off with no solid gold subs in the lineup as the new movement models are being phased in. If the GMT is any indication, I do not believe they will do much, if anything to the case. But the white gold model could lead the way for the new model. Find out at Basel.

If you are in the market to buy plenty here have seen them in display cases in various AD's. This watch is hardly a unicorn

My thoughts as well. I would be very surprised if there are any changes to the case design when the new movement is implemented. I would expect one or more new metal/color combos, and possibly a disco or two, again similar to what we saw with the GMT.

This could turn out to be true, but people said the same thing in 2017, 2018, and leading up to Basel in March 2019.

One of these years, it's actually going to be true. The Sub will get updated movements.

FWIW, I have a Smurf on order with my AD for several months now. Their official response to the what gives question is, and I quote, “ we have no idea.”

So I don't mean to bump an old thread but I've been following this seeing as I ordered a Smurf mid-October, I was worried it wouldn't come and was waiting for the "sorry we can't get one" call BUT today I got THE call that the Smurf had arrived just over 5 weeks after placing the order. The blue is absolutely STUNNING!

When in hand, there is no question. The gold models are about 50% heavier than the same model in SS. By itself it isn't as obvious when looking at it and not holding it, but sitting next to a SS model it is very apparent that the WG has a yellow tinge to it. I don't know how else to say this but the gold also wears warmer as in it feels to me as if it holds more body heat than steel as well.

Honestly just ask around from AD to AD. One AD told me that you cannot order SS Prof. Another AD let me order one.

Based on that experience, I think policies are sort of made up. If they like or value you, you will get the nod.

I really hope they start tapering down the lugs on the submariner. Main reason I let mine go for the sd4k.
