Definitely try them both on. A friend of mine has an Omega Railmaster XL (49mm) that looks great on his wrist but looks like a clown watch on me. I think its a must if you are spending significant money on a watch to try a few size options.

When you try them both on, one will feel more right. Whatever mm that is, that is the one that is right for you and no one else can judge that and you will not care if they do.
