Is the new SMP bracelet with screws a step backward?

Do you think the new SMP bracelet with the screws to secure the links a step backwards from the previous pins and collars?

The new system uses two tiny screws on each side to secure a pin the middle to hold the links together. To me, the tiny screws are ... tiny! They are easily lost, much worse than the collars in the old system.

And I have no problem with the pin and collar system. With the right tool, I can size the bracelet easily with no risk of scratch. Now I have to mess with the tiny polished screws, its much easier to lose the screws, and scratch the screws or links with a slip!

I wished Omega kept the old pin and collar system or just go with a single large screw to hold the links together.

I agree with you. It was very frustrating for my old eyes and hands to deal with those tiny screws when sizing the bracelets of the two ATs I owned.

I much prefer the old pin and barrel bracelets.

I'm the opposite - I hated the pin and sleeve system, very easy to make a mistake and bend a pin. I find the new system much more intuitive

While I'm not crazy about either solution, I hate pins and collars, so I vote for the screws.

Cheers,

A big step forward.

A watch is usúally only sized once oer twice, so a little more work is not a big deal.

There is is also less wear in the new system. The pin is not fixed and can then roll freely.

I love the new style

These are finished much nicer than the previous version.

I only had to mess with them once for a proper fit. The pins always felt a little flimsy - I was always afraid I would bend one, too.

As long as you have properly sized screwdrivers and proper work environment, I see the new screw system to be superior to the old hands down.

I for one hate the Pin and collar system.....I have yet to experience the new style bracelet.

I would have if the guy in Grand Cayman wouldn't have brought out a hat with the store logo on it to try to "sweeten the deal"...that's just insulting ::grumble grumble::

I have MANY bent pins lol it could be that they're just trying to lower the dexterity requirement, the pin and sleeve system requires competence and dexterity, which I lack, the screws may be small and tricky to thread but it requires less skill, just patience.

I prefer the new system to ...

the old but I feel a single screw/pin is the best system. Like on Rolex and many other brands such as Doxa, several boutique brands, Breguet, AP. Not like it's patent protected.

I had no issue with the pin and collar system - once they are in they are going nowhere (screws on the other hand can work loose), but a lot of people disliked because they thought it was difficult to re-size a bracelet, so Omega changed the system probably because of this feedback.

I'm with you on this. The screws are far more pleasing to the eyes as well.
