Calling all Omega experts
Hi guys, just wondering if there's any sort of resource on the web that lists all the so called 'limited edition' Speedies for at least the last 10 years? Quite curious to know what and how many of these Speedies were released.
Second question has to do with choosing between two Speedies. Which would you buy; a Speedmaster Alaska Project or a Speedmaster Pro Apollo 11 35th Anniversary Limited Edition 3500? I've already made up my mind towards the latter but I'm curious about your thoughts as well? Which of the two is more rare/special in your opinion? Copper |

I'm no expert but imo you've chosen two standouts when it comes to LE Speedmasters with the 2008 "Alaska Project" being much more rare, 1,970 pieces, as compared to the 2004 "35th Anniversary" 3,500 pieces produced.
Because of the price difference and rarity of the Alaska I'd be more hesitant to wear it daily. The 35th Anniversary is not only more available and affordable, but much more striking with the panda dial for my two cents worth. As for the limited edition Speedmasters of the last ten years, there's too many to keep track of, "google" is the best solution. |

Thanks for the input impalass. To be honest I had the same sort of thinking as you; the Alaska should be more expensive, since it is more rare but looking everywhere, the Panda is a good deal more expensive, even from some of the members of these fine forums.
I am totally in love with the Panda but I want the Alaska as well because it too is a very special piece and I love the extras. God help me, I'm talking myself into both. All I need is the lottery. Copper Quote:

You can pick one up now and the other at a later date, and double the pleasure of the "hunt" so to speak. With these fine forums it's easy to talk oneself into buying both, your not alone in that regard. |

I am sorely tempted to do just that impalass, though I want a watch that's in great condition. Beyond these two I've also, somehow, got myself interested in a Snoopy. I will be sleeping on the sofa soon I reckon :).

If I'm not mistaken "Snoopys" are going for top dollar.

Get the meteor dial. Very appropriate.

Just like I did! As mentioned before: it is appropriate, although $$$. It is much more 'sparkly' than you would think. And the association is cool.
But. Apollo not Alaska. $ determine not #. The Alaska is ok but estheticaly it is marginal. Kelly |

This may help you. Sadly Chuck died in 2008, but he was THE Speedy expert and left a legacy of rich information.

Brian, Kelly, I would love to buy the meteor dial but it's out of my budget for now and I figure I have a shot at one later. The other two are older so I imagine finding mint pieces of the Alaska or Panda will become harder as time goes by (but I could be wrong).
Perdu, thanks for the link, I'll have to oogle it tonight :). Copper |
