This watch just came up locally.
Datejust 16220 2005 with WG markers and engine turned. Watch + original box no papers. Seller is local to me so is asking 5k USD all in.
Any thoughts ? Anything I should look out for. Thank you ! Edit : sorry for the picture format. Posted from phone, flips the pictures so some reason. |

Nice watch. Bracelet looks in great shape.
$6.5 K Canadian is a little high. On the other hand, it’s a 2005 (not that old) and apparently in very good condition. My opinion, perhaps it should be recently serviced at that price point. Good luck. |

Seller says it was serviced last year, but cash...so no paperwork.

Something else I find odd is did the 16220 engine turned even come in WG ? I thought that was for the fluted models and engine was steel. |

Looks great I want one of these myself. I would pull the trigger at $6k. I would have the sale contingent on it going through RSC with the cash service mentioned above. IDK what that's about lol

You are correct, engine turned bezel comes in SS only.

Here’s the thing. Secondary market DJ prices are climbing rapidly. Two years ago, you could find these for under $3K USD. With a little hunting, you could find four-digit versions in Canada at $3500 Canadian.
Today, if you look hard, you can still find a few privately for just under $4000 $C, but there are plenty listed these days at $5500 and up. Bricks and mortar dealers are asking as much as $7000 $C for five-digit DJs from the 1990s and 2000s. On the service question, of course it’s better to have paperwork. But there’s an element of “trust the seller”. There are plenty of collectors that I would trust if they claimed that a watch was serviced while in their possession. And some I wouldn’t, and definitely not a random stranger. The last issue is bezel and dial swaps on vintage DJs. These are common — as has been said many times, Rolex dealers routinely offered these swaps to their customers, when they bought the watches and afterward if the customer dropped in again. These swaps do not hurt value (my opinion) and what is important is the overall look of the watch to the person buying it today. |

If there is NO "real" service paperwork - need I say more?
People lie like crazy, claiming "it was serviced." Do not fall for that garbage. You can use the service issue to your advantage. Either proof of service or negotiate accordingly.
