First Panerai?

I am thinking of getting my first Panerai, branching out from Rolex. The 112 has caught my imagination due to its simplicity. Would love to hear your thoughts on a first Panerai. Thank you.

112 is a great choice. Classic and pure Panerai. Don’t overthink it: the first choice is almost always right.

Pre-congrats!

I recently went with the 112 when deciding on a base PAM and couldn't be happier. It's a fantastic watch and probably my favourite to wear out of all my watches.

If you want new, you could consider the 914. There may be some new 560 still around you can find, possibly with a discount. The 8 days reserve is very convenient.

I was recently in the same boat as you. The 112 is awesome. So is the titanium version 176. I went with a 111 instead due to price/availability where I am. The symmetry of a two hand is nice but having a second hand can make the watch feel more “alive”.

Anyone have/had both the 111 and 112? I know they are very similar, a second hand and more writing on the dial. I would appreciate your impressions.

112. I like better the clean and symmetrical dial. I had 005, radiomir blackseal also in the past. Currently I own a 112 and I love its clean look

PAM88, followed just a few months later by a PAM112. The 112 got all the wear. What a tremendous piece.

Just purchased my first Panarai, PAM1209 Azzurro 42mm Submersible. I’ve been a lifelong Rolex and Omega consumer. I’ve never purchased anything in this price range that wasn’t one of those brands.

I don’t know if it’s just the honeymoon period, but I absolutely love this thing! It’s beautiful, fits very nicely on my smallish wrist, appears useful for my needs, and it’s NOT another Rolex or Omega! I hope it lives up to my expectations. It will be put through its paces with lots of wrist time and miles.

The 112 is a great option especially for your first Pam. It covers a lot of bases.

If you like the 112 I'd check out a 000 too. Its what I ended up with when I was considering the 112 myself.

What Rolex(s) do you currently have? Will be helpful in order to give a good recommendation. I would say get a 47mm like the 372, 422, or a 47mm sub. I'm partial to 47mm for Panerai though.

The domed crystal of the 000 made it look more vintage. I personally preferred the more modern looks of a flat sapphire crystal.

I vacillated for a long time before getting a Panera because of the size. I didn’t want it to look like I was wearing an alarm clock on my wrist. When I finally got my first Panerai, I was so pumped. It is an extraordinary watch. I love it. My first was 424, little bit different, but it was a radiomir, so wire logs Which made it ride a little smaller. Plus, I was never a big fan of the signature crown guard, which just adds substantial with that bugged me. I think the 112 is 44 mm, so that’ll be a bit smaller as well.

Congrats In advance. Whatever you get, you’re gonna love this watch

Thanks for this.

I stand by my earlier recommendation of the 47mm Luminor (372 or 422) because the 47mm Luminors are, what many would consider, the quintessential Panerai just like the submariner is the quintessential Rolex.

Especially if this is going to be your first Panerai, I would stick to buying a model that really represents the essence of the brand like a 47mm Luminor.

Plus, although 47mm seems HUGE, and it is, I think it wears meaningfully smaller than the 44mm Bettarini cases (this coming from someone with an objectively tiny wrist who wore a 44mm Bettarini Panerai for several weeks and hated it).

I’d go with the Opx 111 sandwich dial. Probably a future classic, and older piece. I had the choice and chose the 111.

I like having the seconds so 111 or 005.

I'd say 111 sandwich dial.

i have had the 112 and the 510 (like 111 only with "8 day")

i prefer the pure look of 112 for panerai but cant go wrong with either.

beware of the orig base pams there are tonnes of fakes out there. scrutinize the finishing

I recently purchased my first Panerai, a NOS PAM 275. She’s a beauty for sure. Probably will be my one and only PAM.
