Are my inner/outer boxes fake?

Hello, I hope posting this is the correct place on here, if not please feel free to move it admins.

I recently purchased an Explorer I 214270 online. I bought from a reputable online dealer (not an AD) and when it arrived the watch seemed fine to me, it still does even now actually. It came with box and papers. I checked the serials and put both the card and watch under a loupe as well as putting it on a timegrapher. Everything seemed ok. Until I looked at the sleeve, outer box and inner box. They seem off. I compared them to my Submariner box that bought from an AD 6 months ago and they do not seem the same. I will post some photos of the real box and the suspicious box right next to each other. What do you guys think? Is it possible they sent me a real watch and card, with fake boxes? I appreciate any help you can give me. Any chance Rolex changed the fonts or boxes in the past few years since this watch is from 2018?

The real boxes are on the left:

Well I bought from a brick and mortar store that have been in business for over 20 years. I certainly thought they were reputable. They have hundreds of reviews on Google and online have great feedback. What else can I do when local AD's can't source the watch after over a year of waiting?

I’m sure it is fine. Not every single model has exact same sized box etc.

Warranty card. Serial number matching would be a must for me.

Yes looks legit, the the boxes change over the years. Look at the bottom of the boxes, it has a production number on them. Google those numbers to see if the box matches up

They look like all of mine. Buy the seller. Let’s see the watch. That’s the key. These watches are all over the place everywhere at amazing sellers here. DavidSW. Jacek. Takuya. WatchBox. Bobs. Chase. Aamir. Kiril.

Sometimes ADs can mix and grab any box when new too. A lot OPs can attest to getting the wrong size box. It doesn't seem to be much of a concern. Warranty card does carry a lot more weight .

I appreciate all the feedback. I've watched YouTube videos on the fake boxes and my main concerns were the different fonts on the both the inner an outer boxes. The inner boxes not opening the same (the one from an AD opens pretty much 90 degrees, the other one doesn't) and the overall look and feel (hard to explain but the non AD one just doesn't feel as smooth as the AD one). Mind you I only care about authenticity, not about the actual boxes themselves. Thanks again guys. I'll post some photos of the watch itself.

Rolex boxes are quite likely made in China anyway these days, and are really not that nice, and no reputable dealer is going to risk his good name supplying a fake one with a real watch.

I heard fakes have a smell to them too. I mean there might be the faintest of smells. My one from the AD has zero though....

I agree, seems like a dumb thing to do on purpose anyway. But dealers get fake boxes in all the time I bet. Maybe someone grabbed a fake without realizing it? I don't know. I just know I'm having my AD's check everything out on it.

Are my inner/outer boxes fake?

They’d pass the 50/50 test...that is, looking fine at 50’ traveling 50mph.

There’s not enough detail in the photos to really tell.

If the dealer said “complete set”, then just assume he assembled the set. So may be wrong box or a good fake one. Happens all the time. There’s really nothing to be done now.

A box is just a box and not the best box in the watch world, boxes are made in many different countries worldwide. The most important bit is the watch the rest just packaging like you get with most products today.

Hahaha! I don't know if this comment was half serious, but the new-style genuine Rolex boxes have a specific smell to them!

Boxes and watches are not shipped together.

The watches are shipped via high-security, high value courier. The boxes are shipped in the back of a truck.

They are married up later, at the Dealers discretion, and the boxes may be from different production runs.

Despite what many Forum discussions may say, you are actually buying the watch as the luxury product. The packaging is just that, and does not have a make/model, or specific spec to adhere to.

Any pics of the watch? I’d be more concerned about the watch being authentic.

Well an update today, I went to my AD and he said to him the watch is authentic from all outward signs. He brought out a couple of boxes from 3 years or so ago and he said he can't tell a difference. So he would never give a 100% opinion without opening it up, which would void the remainder of the warranty, but he said everything looked correct to him. So shows what a little internet and too much time can do to my mind. ;) Thanks everyone for the input.

Glad you were able to confirm watch authenticity with the AD. Enjoy your new Explorer!
