Need advice on the 3861 vs 9300......
I've wanted the DSOTM vintage black for some time, and still believe this watch speaks to me, each time I see it in person. The bonus is the 9300 co axial, which I think is such an incredible movement for the price point.
However, as I posted in another thread, I recently saw the 3861 in person and I really like the hesalite version on nylon strap, so much so that I'm thinking of getting both, but would like to start by purchasing one first. In fact, I like the speedy pro in hesalite far more than I did my black dial daytona (RIP), which surprised me. My concern is that I've read some of the posts on potential chrono issues with the 3861, and am wondering if it would be a good idea to wait on purchasing it to let Omega work out whatever kinks may be associated with it. In addition, I have no desire to get the prior 1861, as I want a modern movement that is anti magnetic and more accurate. So, might it be better to get the DSOTM now and hold off for a bit on the 3861 until it's been out a bit longer (say, this time next year)? The 3861 would be more of a daily and the DSOTM would be a watch that saw wrist time maybe 2-3 days a week. |

What chrono issues on the 3861 are you alluding to? I would get the dark side first. Wait till you can snag discounts on the new speedy, which shouldn’t be too long a wait. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would go DSOTM first as it is an impressive watch and fun to wear. I owned one and regret letting it go. The 1861 movement is a work horse and I have not had any significant issues with timing or anything else with the watch. The new 3861's are too expensive for what they are right now and even with a significant discount I would prefer my 1861. So many bracelet options, Forstner and Uncle Seiko for bracelets, OEM NATO's for a cool moon look. The Speedmaster game is deep with so many options and variations so buy what you want and enjoy.

If you plan on getting both anyway, it probably makes the most sense to go to the dark side first.
Discounts can be had on the new 3861, I got 20% last Friday, but if you’re worried about the movement breaking, the watch will be around a long time. Your logic is spot on! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
