Traveling to Tijuana - Should I bring my sub?
Hi TRF,
I’m wondering if it is safe to travel to Tijuana with my Sub. I’ve heard stories that it is unsafe and pickpocketing is very common and so are robberies. Have any of you travelled there with your rolex? I was thinking of wearing it during day time and if I need to roam around during night time, I will leave it in the hotel bedroom safe. Or should I just leave it at home in the US? What do you guys recommend? |

Rolex owners can’t help wanting to show off. Take it... and good luck!

I have travelled there and would not take it - no reason to tempt fate.

I don't take a nice watch when I travel anywhere. The benefit doesn't outweigh the risk/hassle.
Having been to Tijuana, I most certainly would not bring it. |

Have fun getting mugged.
I have a Casio retro analog/digital dual time for travel, and will be more than happy to gift it to any potential thieve. Wearing the equivalent of 1 year salary to your wrist in these countries is just a terrible idea, unless you have a great insurance. |

Thanks guys, staying the obvious, I don’t want to get mugged so I’m not gonna carry it.
The reason I asked is when I visited Mexico City in 2019, I was pleasantly surprised that it did not seem very unsafe. I though TJ would be similar, but thank you for the reality check! |

Lol... no issues with wearing a nice watch on some of my travels but as posted earlier- avoiding TJ to begin with is probably the best answer and if the donkey show is calling you I’d advise wearing a G Shock.

I travel and work in TJ almost on a daily bases. I would suggest not bringing your Rolex. Don't wear name brand or "flashy clothing" either, just stay under the radar and you will be fine. Good luck!

I have a business there. You should exercise caution, as long as you are are not walking around solo at night and dont do illegal stuff you are fine.

Only 2 places I've been where I regretted having anything of value were Tijuana and Rio. If you're not familiar with the area, I'd pass on bringing a nice watch.

Doesn’t matter as much as where you are in the world, situational awareness is the key

I have been in Tijuana several times, both for business and pleasure. Wearing your Rolex really depends on what you're planning to do and where you are planning to be. I have worn my Rolexes several times depending on the place and activity. Just like in the States, it really depends where and what you plan to be doing.

situational awareness is the key. If there for business, why not wear it. But if just visiting and night life maybe keep it at home. I've worn mine a few times in Playa de carmen, cancun, puerto morales, cozumel out and about during the day. But night wouldnt wear it.
Parts of US is just as sketchy.
