I agree with this but no one really knows what Rolex has in store. The original "no date" sub does not sell as well as others and with the exception of this forum does not have a huge following. Look at the SD4K and how long it lasted. Next, we have an SD with a cyclops. I'm hanging on to mine as it's the perfect watch for me and my daily.

Yes, it does in this day in time with the SS shortage. That being said the date is much more sought after and the original is produced in much less volume from my research.

Yep, it HAS to happen eventually. Whether that will require removal from the brand (doubt it) or just a gap in delivery (more likely) is up to Rolex.

It makes very little sense to shut down the most recognizable Rolex model in the lineup. Instead they'll likely announce the new movement and no one will be able to get it until it ships.

Thanks to the current wait times no one would be any wiser. My guess this has already been under way for most of this year. Ship out the remaining stock and then gear up production for the Sub with the new movement.

Anyone's guess if it's a trickle down strategy or the entire line getting the update, but it will happen soon. It needs to be updated.

There's an old adage that there's a tiny bit of truth to every rumor. Even if it's 80/20 false, that 20% still has substance, and if you've talked with 2 AD's in 2 different parts of the world and heard this - something is cooking.

I'm just trying to imagine the conversation that would be going on at Rolex HQ between the people who would have the power to make such a decision. What could they be thinking and saying:

There's a severe shortage of SS models
It's tarnishing our image
Our customers are crying they can't get a watch they want and are mad at us
People are buying Brietlings!
Lets increase our prices- Absolutley not, that will make people want our watches more
We need to increase production-Absolutley not that will kill our resale values

After a brief silence and soul searching the CEO asks:
Well what on earth can we do?
Head of production answers: Let's take our best selling watch, the most iconic watch, the watch that most people associate with Rolex and just stop making it.

Brilliant! That would solve all our problems.
Think of all the YM, DJ and solid gold watches we can make now if we don't have to worry about making the Submariner in two versions anymore!
The people will be happy and rejoice!

A preposterous thought, the Sub will live on till Rolex makes its last watch.

A possibility considering Rolex has shifted to DJ/TT/PM and looks like they're cleaning up there SS sport offering: GMT LN is gone because it looks much like a sub date. SS Sub ND is not hot outside of the WIS not to mention it's low profit watch and it looks like a Sub date so it could be the next one to go.

To Rolex it's one less low profit SS sport means one more high profit DJ/TT/PM. Can't them blame for maximize their profit.

ADs should just start telling customers that their watch choices have been discontinued.

That’s crazy talk. That would be similar to Volkswagen ceasing production of the iconic beetle, or Volvo ceasing production of the 240. Never gonna happen

If it does change the sub lime it will be the new movement.

Anyone Keen for a sportsman bet?

It's rumours like this that break my balls - and a dude here then changed a wait list from BLNR to a sub?? He should have called me, would have had him one in two days

Will Rolex stop making the 114060? Yes, just as it stopped making the 14060M before the 114060.

Will Rolex ever stop making the Submariner? Not a chance.

Yes it will cease to exist because in 2020 an upgrade with 70h power reserve will be launched. Case closed.

Subs are available up here. I was offered one around two weeks ago but am waiting for a date model instead so I passed.

They must be still available or they would not be arriving at the AD to sell.

Have any of the other members here heard this, or are they like me and think it is utter tripe that Rolex would stop manufacturing the Submariner and simply refer to the Sub date as the Submariner in its sports range?

One word: Unlikely

As I have stated before, lets just look at how Rolex responds to the wants and views of the Rolex fanboys on the Forums, look at what came out this year. They got rid of the Oyster bracelet on the SS GMT (as everybody must have hated it!) They brought out a 42mm gold Yacht-Master on a rubber strap (which all the Rolex fans were obviously just gaging for!) and then the icing on the cake for the fans on the forums, a TT Sea-Dweller (that got them dancing in the streets!) So judging by these previous new offerings, next year is a no brainier. There is no doubt that they will keep the thick lugs as a permanent feature of the Sub & GMT sports models, and they will roll out a rose gold TT Submariner with a new movement!

Well, I did say “who knows?”. The rumour has certainly been discussed here in numerous threads so to that end the “rumour” is “gaining traction”.

Anyone has figures that the Sub (no date) is not a good seller?

My AD told me that the No Date would be pretty easy to get when I was looking for one.

Zero chance of this. The sub began as a no date, there is no way Rolex will end that heritage piece.

I can definitely see the Sub ND being discontinued and leaving only the Sub Date, for the same reason that they put a cyclops on the Sea-Dweller. The general public LOVES the cyclops, most can't conceive of buying a Rolex that doesn't have it. Just from anecdotal evidence, I've seen a gazillion Sub Dates in the wild, but never a Sub ND. I remember about 10 years ago when I started getting into watches, my thinking was "who in the world would buy a Sub ND, that's so stupid, it looks so weird and naked without the cyclops." The Sub ND is probably a loser for Rolex in the grand scheme of things.

The current model being discontinued and the new movement model coming out, sure.

It gone for good, no.

You don't get rid of their brands most famous design icon.
