Incoming Pilot!
Just picked up a black dial IWC Mark XVIII to serve as the daily while we get a new puppy. On a more serious note, the history of the flieger watch is great and appealing and compared to some of the competition it still retains its use as a modern pilot's watch with its sapphire crystal safe against changes in air pressure.
Overall, the case finishing is what I would expect from IWC and feels quite durable, certainly enough to handle a puppy. If the flieger design is something that appeals to you then there is no reason not to like this watch. The date window being slightly in does not bother me in the slightest as some say, especially since it does not contrast with the dial/numerals. It does stand out more on the LPP model, however. I would have wished that all of the numerals would have been applied and lumed, but I personally am not using it that much in a dark environment. For those like me who enjoy the flieger watch design and history, this is certainly a good pick up if you're considering it. And if you're one who accepts that you have no hope of pulling off a big pilot One lasting question for those of you who own this watch or any other with the IWC cal 35111 (Sellita SW 300). What is your experience with the accuracy? I'm hoping that mine is still in the "break-in" period - after not setting it for 4 days, I'm seeing roughly a +35, or on average +8.75/day. The gain is pretty consistent everyday, so at least there's little variation in that number! |

I am not a micro observer of my watches’ accuracy, so take it with a grain of salt when I say that I’ve found my Mark XVIII accurate.

My 327004 LPP (2892-A2) is averaging +/- 1 spd when worn and fully wound, as the power reserve drops it tends to run up to 3 seconds slow. I'd be concerned if yours is +8spd.
The ETA is supposedly chronometer spec, is the Sellita version exactly the same? I wonder why the switch from 2017-2018. |

I have a LLP mark xviii and I really enjoy wearing it. Mine runs about +4 which works for me. Congrats on your new Mark.

A beautiful watch. Amazing simplicity and refinement.
