Opinions on which Rolex Sport Model

So I have cleaned out the collection of all my sport models. I am looking to add a Rolex back into the mix to add to my daily wearer (a nomos Orion neomatik). I am considering the following.

5 digit sub
17650 polar
214270 (lumed version)
114270/14270

I have owned a couple 6 digit references and they are just too beastly for my 6.75 inch wrist. As hard as I try to love them and as amazing as the bracelets are I just don't feel comfortable. I know there are people that have owned all of these at one point and wanted to hear some opinions. Thanks.

a late 14060M would be my call. I hear you on the chunkiness of the 6 digits.

I have the same size wrist. Surprised to hear that the 39mm 214270 is beastly. Just to clarify, is it the weight, height or the case size the issue? I'm waiting on my first sport model so I would love to get your (and others) thoughts here.

Agree. Can’t go wrong with the 14060M.

I haven't tried the 6 digit explorer 1. I have owned the sub and gmt 6 digit and the weight is great. They are just too big in general for my tastes.

My wrist is between 6.75 and 7. I’ve got a 214270 and personally don’t find it too large at all. The versatility of it is damn near unmatched. I work out of our home so I’m typically in casual dress but I wore it with a suit yesterday and it killed.

The front runners are the 5 digit sub and the new explorer 1. The explorer 1 would win hands down but the maxi case scares me. Does it wear like the ceramic sub?

Lighter, Stronger, Faster: 4-digit if you can afford it.

If not, a 5-digit 16570

Try on a 39mm Explorer I. The case is shaped in a very svelte way, much different than the Submariner's case. Other things to love about it are the exquisite Oyster bracelet with Easylink, and the matte dial and Professional hands with Chromalight.

Is there a reason people are suggesting the no date sub over the date version?

I MUCH prefer the Submariner over the Submariner date...aesthetics and simplicity of the dial, sans date, does it for me...

OP consider the 14060M...2 or 4 liner...can’t go wrong either way

I can’t speak for others but my first Rolex was a 14060 no date Sub. My AD had both and the price difference was not an issue. The no date Sub was just mesmerizing because it was so simple and flew a bit more under the radar without the cyclops.

126710BLRO will fit 6.75" wrist like a dream, much better than BLNR or other 6 digits

I'd go with either of these two as well. I like having a watch with a GMT function and I find the date is a great asset as well. If only one watch those functions would make the deal for me. On the other hand having the adjustable bezel can be really useful. I also like having a dive watch. IMHO the choice would come down to those two. I'd likely go for the 16570 because its complication, understated, fly under the radar presence, and favorable pricing. You'll pay a premium for a 14060 (M or not).

Went with the 16570. Very pleased with the choice. Nothing special about this particular one, but love the look on a strap. Thanks for the opinions.

It sounds like you already have a business watch, so I’d skip the Explorer 1 and go directly to Explorer 2. Or the sub. I recently learned that I’m not as fond of divers as I thought I was. Imagining wearing one is a lot different than wearing one.

I think reference 214270 has a lot going for it: the svelte case and bracelet (including Easylink in the clasp) make for excellent comfort; it uses caliber 3132, featuring a Parachrome spring and Paraflex shock absorption; the matte dial and Chromalight on the markers look dynamite.

I don't like nether of the watches on your list. I have 6.5 inch wrist and the beastlier watch is it's better for me.

Nice pickup! I was about to respond and suggest 14060m or 214270, both of which I have and enjoy, but that Explorer II is a great reference. Looking good on that strap.

Polar gets my vote. So many black dial watches. I find the white very refreshing.

16570 polar all the way. Stunning watch and very under the radar.
