Cheap and effective watch cleaner
Hi all I’d like to share with you a kitchen cleaning / degreaser product I have been using recently that’s been very effective at cleaning my watches. It’s very cheap at £3 for a big bottle. It’s very mild and doesn’t leave any Nasty residue or smell when you wash it off either.

Myself have just used plain old soap and water for the past 40 years, as long as any soap product does not harm your skin then it will be fine for SS or any metal. No need for some of the fancy watch Foo Foo spray products and special wiping cloths.

My preferred method, if there’s no soap or water......a quick lick of the crystal, wipe with 100% Pima cotton t shirt, voila...good to go!

This can also be described as the "on-the-go cleaning method"

Dawn dish soap. If it is mild enough to clean crude oil off wildlife, it is good enough for my watches

I don't mix the word "cheap" with Rolex...just me :) . If I can afford Rolex, then I should be able to afford a nice cleaner :)

If you're going to "upgrade" anything in your cleaning arsenal, get an ultrasonic machine. Spraying and wiping does very little compared to the deep cleaning power of an ultrasonic.

You guys all talk like you are badass.
Water. That’s it. Works great. Nothing wise needed.

Yeah, I was just being playful talking tough. From time to time I use some shampoo or dish washer detergent, let it soak, and then gently brush it.

I can’t imagine what you must see. And what you must use to clean it off.

Just using Dawn and water at the moment. As many have mentioned, though, with serious filth something else will be needed.

As said many times...
Shampoo and water and sometimes an old toothbrush works for me. My wife uses denture cleaning tablets in water for her jewelry and if I’m not around to wash her Rolex, it goes in the denture tablet bath too. It works great and everything smells minty. |
