Blue dial on a 16014 Datejust, redial or original

Hello, i am interested in buying this watch, i have never seen a dark blue vignette dial like this one before on a 16014. Can anyone tell me if the dial is refinished, aftermarket or factory original? thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with this dial.. I would say that it is photographed in shadows...

Do you have reason to suspect it to be other than authentic..

Here is the sellers reply when questioned about the dial:

"We have had the dial inspected and it is so nice that even professionals admire it as original though they are not sure in any event due to its age it could be redone since its as perfect as original"

Also he says that the lume still works (watch is from about 1979 - 1980)...

When in doubt, walk away. There will always be another one.

The sellers name on ebay is jewelrybrands (JewelryBrands.net Beverly Hills, California USA)

He just sent me this message: "The dial is in excellent condition for its age that it most likely has been refinished sometime throughout the years."

Is a refinished dial a deal breaker? the price is $2175

Now it looks like it could be a vignette dial.

yes i think it is... so would the fact that it probably has a refinished dial be a deal breaker for most people?

If you buy it for yourself and you like it I can't see why it would be.

It's not like a 2k watch will drop to 1k because of that.

but when it needs a service, Rolex would confiscate the dial if it has been refinished..

Is RSC the only choice for service? What about the thousands of independent watchmakers? Please be serious.

The watch looks great to me. Id say the price is fair.

Not if it is an original Rolex dial.

ebay seller "jewelrybrands" admitted that the dial has been refinished, even though that was NOT mentioned at all in the listing. The same goes for all of their listings, so i'd advice everyone to steer well clear from this seller.

i was looking at another one of their watches, they were indicating they were selling it for someone else. I asked if anything was refinished on the watch and he couldn't tell me. also asked him if the rolex watches would be guaranteed free of aftermarket parts, he says yes but was a bit hesitant when he said that, and then he immediately started saying that they are vintage pieces and they have not owned them for 30-40 years so they cannot be 100% certain on everything. Does anyone have any experience with this seller? I want to avoid buying heavily refinished pieces, and I definitely do not want any with aftermarket parts.

also doing more research into this seller. I am seeing evidence of shill bidding. take a look at this http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=281071753543

notice the person who one the auction has a 100% bid history with jewelrybrands. The same watch was relisted even though it sold to this "bidder". I am staying away from them, something doesnt seem right.

It is a very nice looking watch and appears to have very little wear. If you like the looks, go for it.
