Thanks much. They’re my primary subject matter. I’m old enough to remember NEVER seeing them. They’ve really made a remarkable comeback.

The return of Bald Eagles and Trumpeter Swans is one of the great achievements of naturalists. Like you, I never saw them as a child. Now, I see them everywhere.

This lizard was in the grass beside our drive in the Sierra Nevada foothills back in 2003. The camera was exceptionally inexpensive. When I set the critter back into the grass its tail detached and started its own wriggling dance. The lizard disappeared pronto and a bird appeared out of nowhere to get the tail.

I learned later it is a survival thing; the lizard grows a new tail.

WOW, some fantastic pictures here. I have a DSLR which sits in my closet for 5 years, what a shame. I should get out and start to take some amazing pictures.
