I just got my EXP 42 But its going back

I Just got my BRAND NEW Explorer 2, but to my dismay, there is a scratch in the opposite side of the crown, and it looks as it the side of the watch was poorly polished and the mirror finish is blurry and looks burned. This is not a smudge, I tried washing it. I bought this from my local AD. Am I out of line for wanting an exchange for a new watch? The removed all of the plastic prior to shipping the watch to me and this was the first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box!

When you pay this much for a "watch" you have every right to want perfection. But...from the pictures provided...it still looks like a fantastic piece. Definitely your call...but you'll add plenty of "dings, dents, swirls" during your lifetime with it.

I'd also make sure the plastics stay on until you take posession of it. Those come off when it's been fitted to you.

That's a bummer. I would ask for an exchange for another one unless they could discount it some more...?

Why would they remove the stickers if it was new?

Sounds like they sold it...someone wore it and then returned it and they sold it as "new".

nothing wrong with dings and dents as long as you are the one doing it .

That is definitely a used watch sold as "BNIB". They would never remove the stickers.

It is an easy fix but beat them up a little and make it worth the frustration.

I think it was scratched and they tried to repair it. They over polished it causing the smudge marks... I wouldn't trust them to TRY to repair it again...

Didn't you notice it when you bought it? You mention 'it was shipped', was this purchased online?

I find it odd that they would remove the stickers..that's part of the fun..agree with the post above that's there's nothing wrong with scratches if they come from you..would try to negotiate a lower price or get a new one.. would ask about those stickers...great watch either way though...sorry this happened

It was shipped to a relative out of state first. Then back to me. My sales guy took all the stickers off. I notice after he got most of them off I think that's when it picked up the scratch. He did that befor he fitted the braclet.

The good news is they said let us try to polish it first, and to my supprise. It came out 100% so I'm good to go. They said if I'm not happy with it down the road, they'll make it right.

Tell them to ship it to you with all factory plastic intact....the joy of removing plastic on a brand new watch is a thrill in its own

Congrats on the watch

Don't settle for any less. The money you paid for the watch was in tip top perfectly and legally negotiable shape - your watch should be too. My 2c.

Sounds good.. I think that you may have over-reacted initially, nothing wrong with that.. It is very difficult to "burn" stainless steel.. Probably a stubborn bit of adhesive from the stickers and barcodes..

You will do much more to it than that little bit that is now behind you... go enjoy that fantastic timepiece.........

No way Jose!

I'd make them send me a brand new one with stickers in tact. Would you accept a brand new car with a scratched bumper?

Oh, and congrats :) I'm a big fan of the 216570...

Happy that it worked out for you, great looking watch. Scratches and marks are going to happen but you should be the one making those scars... I mean memories

As long as they make it right...I'd want it to be RIGHT too. I'm going through an issue with my BMW. Glass repairman broke a part on my engine...not happy. I'm giving them a chance to make me whole again. Frustrating isn't it?

Since I'm in the market for my first Rolex, this is exactly the type of scenario that gives me the jitters. I want to peel the stickers off myself. I can live with my own dings, but not someone else's. But I'm glad you were able to get it resolved.

Incidentally, my final choice is down to the Blk Exp II and the SubC. So, congrats on a fine looking watch!

Happen to me on my very first Rolex purchase - white dial Exp II red hand. Tiny hairlines on polished side.

Salesman actually stood up for me and they exchanged the watch.

I have purchased other pcs from him - stand up guy.

If I am buying from an AD - I normally ask to take of the stickers...

Glad you where taken care of - Enjoy that great watch!
