Icon1 The TRF book thread.

We've got music, we've got movies (not to mention food and drink!) but I've never yet seen a thread about what we READ!

From a trashy Wibur Smith novel on a flight to Shakespeare/Hemingway et al I always have a book on the go, sometimes two with something "heavy" alongside a trashy novel for light relief.

So what are you reading now?

Post reviews, pic... Whatever you like!

At the moment I'm reading "The White Spider" on my Kindle. It's a seminal book on climbing written by one of the men in the first party to climb the North Face of the Eiger.
Translated from the original German and written in the fifties it's a bit like hard work but, as a mountaineer myself, it's I book I've always meant to read but never made the time.

So come on, guys... I like a beer in front of a movie as much as the next man but I refuse to believe I'm the only one on TRF to pick up a book now and then!

I might just give it a look.

I googled expecting it to be one of those damn vampire novels that seem to be all the rage at the moment!

Look out for The Eiger: Wall of Death on BBC4, currently not on iPlayer. Really good, watched a while back.

Reading "We bought a Zoo" now a hollywood film, but the real story is how an ordinary family bought run-down Dartmoor Zoo, and turned it into an award winning zoo, who's methods are now admired around the world.

The Long-Haired general read that a while back but I haven't got round to it yet... Not sure it will be my bag!

I saw that documentary a month or so ago... That's what made me pull my finger out and download the spider!
Now to go low-brow and get a DVD of "The Eiger Sanction"!!!

I've already taken abuse on another thread about the fact I'm currently reading the Harry Potter series, finally, and enjoying it. LOL

What I wanted to mention was an interesting recent read, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. You have to like a little bit of strange, which I do. About to become a Tim Burton movie, in fact.

My next reads: Keith Richards's Life, and the most recent collection of stories by Sherman Alexie, Blasphemy.

I have sworn to go to my grave without sampling the "delights" of JK Rowling.

I know they say you shouldn't knock it til ya've tried it but, on this one at least, I'll stick with my prejudice!

Incredibly the best book I've ever read was "Who ate all the pies? The life and times of Mick Quinn" who was a soccer player with very little talent and a gambling problem!

Brilliant read though!

I just finished Michael Ondaatje's "The Cat's Table" a short while ago. I mostly read graphic novels, but if I come across a good book, I will take the time and read it too.

Taking a break from my Lee Child, Jack Reacher-thon and rereading "You Only Live Twice" by Ian Fleming. Rereading Bond always uncovers some new gem.
