id be out of equities not in retirement assets right now. amzn guiding lower. if not buy put protection imo with furures, options or vix.

when the biggest boys guide lower you cannot fight the tape. higher rates and shrinking central bank balance sheets does not help.

sometimes people laugh. but with lower birth rates and aging population with wealth tied up at top us equities are looking less tasty.

This sounds foolish, and I'm sure I'll look back on this post in about 12 months and say what was I thinking, but I feel like the top is in and the bull is getting ready to die. Not sure what actually causes it to tip, but I've spent the last 2 weeks selling into any strength and lightening my load.

If we do rally near previous highs, I'll be shorting high growth debt-laden companies as well.

Not easy coming to this conclusion, especially after a decade of easy money, but these feelings have been with me for some time now. While you'll never time a top or bottom, I think there is a lot lurking.

Really, these thoughts have been lingering for me since these tax cuts (not discussing politics, just the impact of tax cuts on the economy, and in turn, the stock market) were passed. If you didn't know what corporate America was going to do with this money, well, as respectfully as I can say it, you're not very smart. To start, even before going into those details, juicing an economy after nearly a decade of unconventional monetary policy and expansion, well, that isn't necessary or useful for a plethora of reasons. For starters, the economy needs juicing when it is faltering, not when it is expanding. The CEOs who earn 8 figures annually did one thing, they bought back stocks (and at all-time highs nonetheless, wonder how that will work out. I'm sure they'll get their 8-9 figure bonuses regardless, for their genius plans to cut workers and buy their own stock - have a look at Starbucks, just today, laying off 5% of their workforce). There were also some highly publicized bonuses, and since most don't see the forest for the trees, they don't comprehend that a bonus is a one off, the tax cut is permanent (or at least that is the goal), quite the nice head fake.

Anyways, I get the sense that it is all Powell, and if he does what I think, I'm sure the history books won't be kind to him, but he is trying to bring us in for a soft landing (which is impossible based on the actions of his predecessors and central banks around the world), but I commend him for trying. We can't just endlessly build debt upon debt upon debt, you cannot endlessly borrow your way to prosperity. If the economy is so strong, and we have had all of this stimulus for a decade, why does a real rate of 1% (if they actually hike 4 more times) scare the market so much (inflation around 2-2.2% and an FFR averaging around 3-3.25% next year)? The answer is simple, the expansion has been a mirage on borrowed money that won't be paid back.

I hear bulls complaining about rising rates and talking out of the other side of their mouths about new all-time highs and a Santa rally. If the fear of a 1% real rate is that terrifying to you, you can't argue for all-time highs and stretched P/E's, it is freaking absurd!!!

Feels like the oil market is sniffing something out too. In 2014, there was just a glut of supply, but all other factors were healthy. This feels different, it isn't just a glut of supply, there are other concerns.

I wouldn't mind the Fed pushing us into a recession (although they don't have many bullets to pull us out, unless we go straight Japan on monetary policy, how is that working for them over the last 30 years?) - we need some pain. Maybe we could learn to live within our means as opposed to mortgaging our future and burdening the next generation with mountains of debt.

Anyways, not sure what triggered this rant, although I had a rage inside of me when I saw the first month of our fiscal 2019 and a deficit slightly north of $100B on month one. Glad we got those tax cuts in.

No clue what the actual tipping point will be, but it feels like it is getting very close. Okay, I'm done ranting for now.

Is there a guarantee of FDA approval, though, let alone commercial success on a selected patient group?

Obviously an intriguing (med) stock, but wondering how risky?

Bought more Ritter Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (RTTR) when it went down under $1.22
Still buying Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited (TEVA) on dips
Ritter and Teva were not as friendly so far but Teva is still a promising investment, IMHO. I've simply set it and forget it on these two.

It does seem like a good discount at the moment. It’s one of those great American companies. If your gonna jump in I would recommend staging your buys and buy in blocks. I don’t know how safe the dividend is. I heard they slashed it. Good luck. If I wanted exposure to Kraft maybe I would buy some BRK.B as its a core position for mr buffet. Also might be more tax efficient since he doesn’t pay dividends. Just my two cents

I can't see it unless it's a fire sale. BH wants solid, profitable companies, not overvalued ones with unstable management.

BH is invested into energy (solar, wind, etc.) and certainly some synergies could be made, but I believe Tesla is far too expensive and over-hyped to be a good Berkshire acquisition.

Personally, I think the ultimate future for Tesla is failure and then a sell-off of it's businesses to become profitable.

Charlie Munger accidentally touched on this during the Daily Journal annual meeting last week:

Quote:
At the annual meeting, Munger was asked by a company shareholder about his proverb, where he once famously said he would rather “hire a person with an IQ of 130 but who thinks it’s 120, as opposed to someone who thinks he has a 170 IQ, when he actually just has an IQ of 150.”

Before the shareholder could finish the question, Munger interrupted him by saying “you must be thinking about Elon Musk,” to which the entire audience laughed.

Munger continued:

“Of course I want the guy who understands his limitations instead of the guy who doesn’t. On the other hand, I’ve learned something terribly important in life… never underestimate the man who overestimates himself. These weird guys who overestimate themselves occasionally knock it right out of the park.”
Carl Ichan (IEP) tends to make bolder, more aggressive investments that swing for the fences. Tesla could be more his style, but I still think its too overvalued to become profitable for a buyer. Of course that doesn't mean that there isn't a buyer out there; there are plenty of people/firms that buy into the current hype and hate making money.

TSLA is not a stock you buy or short as part of your long term retirement plan. You play into the volatility that comes with a start up run and funded by a billionaire who can't control himself on his mobile phone.

I've traded it around 15 times in the last ten months. I don't expect people to believe me and don't really care if they do but I've made money every time and gains are right around 50% of my average buy.

I feel that same way about emerging markets ticket EEM. Last year I traded in and out on the short side. And came out ahead.

So you are suggesting the stock will rise from current 10.11 levels to above 100 USD, that would be an increase in market cap of 20 Billion, the stock has never before traded at these levels...

Thank you nonetheless.

Yes. Go to their presentation. There is a slide with how much the cash flow per share will be when the project is up and running. There are scenarios of how much LNG price is vs cash per share.

This is a LNG facility paid for by customers and they will have spot exposure inthe peiod LNG becomes tight. There are only a few in the US that can access gulf coast nat gas which essentially cost zero. This is the next closest thing bs the Qatar LNg.

Think of this as a construction project.

The guy that built Cheniere (LNG) is doing it all over again here. He owns 20%, Total the french oil co owns 20% The project is about the same aize as cheniere at the moment and the aize of Shell Canada. The partners are the customers.

High level we have lots of cheap/ free gas. China needs a lot of gas. Could be part of the solution to the trade deal. This is a buy and hold and not a biotech stock.

Sharing is caring.

I'm out of the equities market for now. Sitting in cash possibly headed for real estate. Slow money but sure money in my market. (Property is cheap and was never over priced to being with). The game is rigged as far as I'm concerned. I have a small pile of degrees in finance to boot.

Real estate is much bigger money. U forget the leverage involved. 500k house 100k equity. Every 5% increase is 25k. Thats 25% return with lower risk. Do that for about 20 homes and u are literally making 500k per year in wealth

Ive studied equity and real eatate markets and people dont add the leverage to their real estate in the calculations
