Newbie question about vintage Rolex
This guy is selling this Oyster Perpetual for a reasonable price. By the looks of the watch and other information he gave me I believe it is a 1977. Just looking at these pictures though the watch doesn't look right it is like no Rolex I have ever seen do you guys think it is a redial? Thank you.

Instead of just saying "welcome", which is useless, I'll give you real information. While that picture is terrible, I've seen that dial before, I don't like them perticularly, but they did come from the factory.
I'd be very surprised if that is a redial but without much more clear shots, I can't say for certain. You're probably okay. Btw, what is this "reasonable" price?

It looks to be a 1501, and I don't know much about that dial. I wear one a couple of times a week and love it. It's really light weight and just a great watch to casually wear with just about anything. I paid $1600 for mine with an original riveted bracelet. Just so you know it's a 34mm head and is 19mm between the lugs.

If its 1977 it should have a 7835 folded link bracelet and not a riveted bracelet. What are the first 3 digits of the serial between the lug? It may be earlier than you think.

It's a Date with the engine turned bezel. Very popular because it wears as wide as a DJ. Nice dial!

IIRC C&I rivet bracelets were made at least until 1976. Have seen clasp codes up to that period. Possibly was a 1976 serial number but only sold in 1977?

Thank you for all of the info guys. I agree the pics he provided are terrible. The price is $1,500 with box and papers. This will be my first Rolex purchase so I was a bit hesitant since I have never seen this type of dial. Before purchasing I was planning on meeting the guy at an AD or perhaps a local jeweler, I'm not looking to get a full inspection as those can take a few days I've heard but I would definitely feel more comfortable with an expert at least opening it up to check the movement.

Yes, check for corrosion and have the back gasket replaced while he's in there, they'll usually just throw one on there for you or just a few bucks.

Here's basically the same watch but with a domed bezel, which is odd for a 1501 since most that you see have the engine turned bezel as shown in the first post.
https://www.wannabuyawatch.com/produ...el-circa-1971/ Compared to the price this dealer is asking, $1500 is a steal with box and papers. Almost too good of a deal, actually... |

The watch you show is a 1500 or should be if that's it's original bezel. To the op. The dial is a known variant, the price is ok. Check the midcase if you can for corrosion and to check the movement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
