As found.. One owner never serviced 5513

Was fortunate enough to stumble upon a first owner, never serviced hence unpolished, daily worn 5513.

Irony of this story is, one of the first posts I have on this forum maybe in 2010 was a LF ad for a 1980 5513 for my birthyear piece. Little did I know that I would find it in a neighboring village 5mins from where i live :-)

The owner bought it in 1980 in Honolulu, just right smack before my birthday. The photos are as found, still uncleaned.

Never opened caseback. 37 years of accumulated gunk! Thankfully, no pitting on the case yet :-)

Congrats on a nice catch. The MK 5 Maxi mattes are hard to find, especially in this solid condition. Craft & Tailor just sold one in much lesser condition for $10K+ recently here on VRF.

What do you think guys? The crystal has reached its polish limit, and is still a bit wavy, i think we are gonna have to replace that. Also slapped on one of my cleaner inserts

Nephew of his posted it on a local watch forum (not selling, just showing his uncle's old watch - I don't think the owner knew), heard about it thru a friend, contacted him and asked for his uncle's particulars, and the rest as they say, is history!

He wasn't advertising at all, nor was he selling it. Contacted him out of the blue and gave him an offer.

Took about two weeks for him to get back to me. Happy it worked out well!

Stunning! Interesting how the tritium patina aged differently on the original hands. How many times have we read posts about other watches when people write, "The hands and/or dial have been replaced because the patina doesn't match."

Well, here's a great example of how they don't always age the same. Big congrats on a fantastic find!

Another thing i noticed is how sharp the bezel is. Considering the gentleman wore it everyday for the past 37yrs, and his business is in construction. I guess polishing has a lot more to do with dull bezels than everyday wear
