Gold chains look good on women, tacky on men, so my answer is "It depends" (on whether it's worn by a woman or a man).

Cartier makes a very classy men’s 18k yellow or WG chain (santos I believe). This I would wear any day of the week.

I voted for 'depends'

There's a classy way to do things, there's a tacky way...and apparently a stable genius way.

Rather it's tacky or not depends on the design and the person that wears it.
Gold has a long history in jewelry and was initially worn as decoration by men and women.

Wow that is quite a vintage gold Rolex. Curious, is it a push crown or of such sort? How do you get the crown out to change the time?

That caught me off guard. The santos chain looks like a token of modern day slavery to me.

Solid Gold Albert Chains

I inherited this double albert chain from a surrogate uncle, when I was aged around 6 I was told off by my mother as I was tugging on it from said uncles waist coat pocket, he was amused by this and showed me the watch that was attached to it, It was his fathers and during hard times he sold the solid gold watch that he originally had and replaced it with a lesser gold plated one thus saving face, Uncle "chef" died and I ended up with it as.... No one else was interested in his stories, so in my world Gold chains are a good thing to have............

Hmmm. Interesting. Not sure your looking at the right chain. Very classic design, classy, not in your face. I think if your going to wear a chain then this Is the one to wear.

I think that they look good if done right. The size and cut of the chain has everything to do with it's appearance.

Been wearing the same 24k chain my grandmother gave me 20 years ago. My kids have both stakes claim to the chain. Guess I need to wear another so they can each have one.

I've worn a thin gold chain with a cross on it under my shirt for the last 25+ years. I almost never take it off.

It is not tacky if it is just the right size and length and not a deliberate ostentatious display of wealth.

Other than my wedding band and my Rolex, I don’t wear any sort of jewelry.

It’s not that I think it is tacky, it certainly can be, I just don’t think it suits me personally.

No neckchains, ever, and I'm 57 already ; )

Gold bracelet, most certainly, but nowhere near my Oyster band!
On the other wrist, only.

In the warmer weather I wear one of two YG nautical anchor chains that were handmade. I think they look great with a tan. I don't wear the larger one with my YG watches; a little too much gold for my taste.

I have a 70gram 14kt gold Cuban link chain, as well as many smaller chains in the 10-20gram region. My girlfriend hates them all and says they're tacky. She went so far as to rip one of my necklaces off my neck because she didn't like it before. still won't scrap them though, I like wearing them to the beach.

I have a couple of 24K ones I inherited from my grandfather. I have never worn them, and they're stored away in the safe deposit box. I put one of them on once and despite it being a thin and light one, it felt way too gaudy and old-man like for my taste.
