I would not call that patina. It is damage with a ruined gmt insert on top.

As it regards the bezel, I find this kind of damage interesting and suspicious. I'm not suggested the OP inflicted this kind of damage, but it strikes me odd that the only apparent wear and tear is heavy scratches. Where are the millions of supremely fine, infinitely small scratches from years of cloth sleeves, decades of very fine particles, eons of wind erosion (not literally, but you get the point). And nothing uniform about the damage, either--no evidence of where the same shirt cuff brushed against the same spot on the bezel for twenty years, etc.
It looks to me like someone has taken a screwdriver and, over the span of ten minutes, tried to amateurly age that bezel. Wrong? Again, no accusation towards the OP, the current owner or the former owner, etc. I refer to a completely hypothetical person. |
