Winter is coming, which cases/lugs the straps fit the best?
Love some vintage Rolex with some vintage/suede straps for the winter period.
But dislike how the more modern cases have a huge empty gap with straps due to longer lugs. Surely depends on actual straps, but: 1) Any difference or preference how straps fit GMTs vs Subs? (1675 vs 5513/1680 as example? Also, any difference with 5-digit transitional models from the 1980s vs the earlier/modern ones?) 2) 4-digit DJs and DDs look great with straps, but once again I remember the more modern ones not. But how about the 5-digit DJs and DDs from the 1980s, is the fit more similar to the older ones or are they starting to look like the newer ones with huge gaps?) 3) How's the fit with 1016 Explorers compared to the options above? Thanks in advance! And always pictures welcomed! |

Thanks for the pics, but for the winter period looking more for a less organized look without any end links, and I am wondering if the 1980s 5-digit refs have similar lugs/cases compared to these earlier ones?
These ones below look so great to my eyes but not sure if same strap fitment look could be achieved with the 1980s tad newer references? Let's say, would straps fit the same way a DD 1803 and a DD 18038? Or a GMT 1675 and a 16750? At least new ones seem to have quite large gap without those end links? |
