I think it's just my bad photography combined with alot of dust inside the watch as the glass is broken. Trust me, in the flesh it's all far too uniform to have been painted. The missing words are all inside the case as is the reference number which leads me to believe the watch is older than anyone thinks.

Does anyone know which year the reference number ceased to be inside the casing and was moved to the outside ? That would give an indication of minimum age.

There is also a number on the movement, can that be traced to anything ?

I'm not questioning everything but certainly the discrepancies in the replies, surely anyone would. I'm not here to pick and choose answers but rather hoping for conclusive knowledge. It's pointless nit-picking my terrible photography.

I had little interest in the watch to begin with but with interest piqued, would now really like just to find out its year of manufacture before it goes to the back of a drawer. The 40s-50s range is not really the answer I wanted, I'd hoped for something a little more accurate than a 20 year span. Apologies if this has offended you. I'd been lead to believe the reference number could provide an answer but remain disappointed.

It seems nobody has access to any records that could help me but if I could find out the year Rolex stopped putting the reference number inside the case, it would be better than nothing.
