While I think the 15300 is perhaps the best 'daily driver' in the Royal Oak series, I don't think it makes for a terribly good EDC compared to the Sub. It is a luxury 'sport' watch, but being the owner of a 15300 I don't find it very good as such. It is more suitable to some nice clothes going out with friends to a special dinner etc. The brushed top size of the bezel and the polished sides to that bezel are very susceptible to scratches and wear. Perfectly OK not to care about that, I don't, but just keep in mind that they will attract sign of usage very easily. Secondly, it is "only" water rated to 50m, so it not necessarily something that you use as a sport watch like going snorkeling, sailing, boating etc. The Sub on the other hand will take anything you throw at it. And then some. Last point might be the service situation: it needs to go back to AP for polishing or regulation/service, certainly adds to a higher TCO vis-a-vis the Rolex. Net/net my friend: if you have an urge for the AP 15300, do think about it first. Try it on, perhaps try to borrow one from a friend and use it a day or two. I can understand/relate to not loving every minute of the Sub. It is a rather common watch and the latest version sometimes feel a bit clinical, lacking in soul, if you know what I mean. But let is sit for a while. Try wearing it on a Isofrane or ZULU/NATO: At the end of the day, the SubC is a far better daily driver for an active guy like you than the AP, and I would argue the Panerai as well. If anything, I would give serious consideration towards selling the PAM + the rest and then having the SubC + AP as a wonderful two watch combo. |

Decision Taken!
The SubC stays, tried on a AP 15300 today and immediately felt it was not a watch for me, felt way too smallish and thin and a bit too 'old mans watch' for me... The SubC obviously is a better watch for me, if I will buy a AP it will be a 'Offshore' model (rubberclad) Do not be offended all you guys with a 15300, it do look great on other but did not feel right on me... Thanks for all help! /masterkiller

And on the subject, I'm am getting this feeling too . . . I'm shopping around for a 359 and it smiles at me more than any Rolex ever did. I find Panerai more interesting as well and it's started me thinking about other watch brands and their respective histories. So while I'll always love my Milgauss, it might be a while before I buy another Rolex. |

I would save for AP and definitely keep Sub.
Both are a must have. Good luck.

I don't "get" AP personally. However, I DO get how the Sub C is no longer any fun. In my opinion, it has lost that something............

To me the SubC is the best all around watch.
I've owned the 15300 in both the white and the blue dial and it's a beautiful piece and great to wear.
That being said, I think you would just end up using it as a dress watch. I would keep the SubC - Dress, casual, sports attire, beach, wedding, whatever....and you never have to worry about it. I have and will always love AP but Rolex is best for ANY occasion. |

If the subc does not sing to you anymore, sell it! Why buying anything else now? Sell it and give you 6months to think about it.
The AP will be a bit less reliable and a bit less waterproof: it is a dress watch.

If you are not wearing and enjoying the SubC why keep it. I say sell it...
However do not go for the AT if you are not sure you like it first. There are many other watches...good luck. |

You MUST have least one Royal Oak in your collection... go Oak for sure... but not titanium! It's all about the weight of that steel!

It is tough decision. AP RO is a great watch. I wish to have the 15300 but I'd never get rid of my SUB or SD or GMT to get it.

It's not like the Sub-C is, or will be, difficult to find. If the economy continues in the same direction you'll most likely see the used market flooded with them. Get what you like, and if you miss the Sub-C it is easy enough to replace it.

Save!
I think the Sub is an icon and a real classic - though I would want to 14060 as it's cleaner and simpler - and I wouldn't part with it. The RO is a wonderful watch you can wear everyday, and it looks good with jeans or a suit. I would be inclined to save and wait until you can afford to keep all 3 watches. Just pin one of these pics up on your desktop to remind you of why you need to keep saving!

Get the AP instead. If you had a non-ceramic Sub I would keep the Sub, however, IMHO the SubC is not that much of a tool watch anymore so the AP is a very nice upgrade and daily wearer.
I wear my discontinued AP RO Jumbo ref. 5402 TT quite a lot.

AP is a great watch, but I personally feel the desire to keep a solid Rolex in the stable like a SUB.

I'll make it simple for you. James Bond didn't wear APs. He wore a Sub.
