I don't like PM Rolex at all, I think they are a little bit showy/vulgar and where PM is concerned, I would choose other more exclusive brands. Even a steel Patek is a better option, investment-wise. Mostly, though, I really don't see what the point is in a gold sub or a platinum Daytona, for example. What are you trying to prove?
What is the point of even wearing a 8K stainless Sub? We all have the time on our phones and just about everywhere else. So no trying to prove anything. We all are watch enthusiasts and if Gold or Platty brings you happiness wearing it on your wrist what is the problem?

3. Everyone and his mom has a Submariner

4. It's fist and foremost a dive watch. I dive, and IMHO, should consider a dive watch if you're actually going to use it for its intended purpose. With the modern day dive computer, it's not really necessary.

5. I travel constantly, so a GMT watch fits my needs perfect and is water resistant to 100m. Realistically, most divers, even advanced, don't go much beyond 30 meters.

I'm not knocking the people who own them, it's a personal preference.

But if I were looking for a gold watch, it would be a, IWC, Patek, or Jaeger-LeCoultre...

Lol you can't subtract hours, you need a GMT? Sounds like you are just rationalizing your decision, while bashing others. The sub bezel is way more useful than the GMT function. With the production of the BLNR, everyone and their mother has a GMT. So like others have said, it is a personal preference. If you want function go buy a Gshock.

I'll take any Sub. It doesn't matter whether one dives, the Sub, IMHO, is simply a perfect watch in steel or PM. If the OP doesn't dig the Sub, then that's fine. There are plenty of us who love them, which likely accounts for its ubiquity in a variety of incarnations.

Gold makes any watch a dress watch. For those who like a sports watch for dress it is the perfect watch.

Totally agree.

Personally, my grail is the black dial Sub. I aim to get one as a retirement present to myself. And no, I don't dive - I can barely swim!

Not sure if it´s a total F you watch but I still love mine after more than three years of ownership.

The more I'm eyeing the LVc, the more I'm thinking it could become my only watch, even with the traveling that I do. I appreciate the GMT feature on my BLNR, but the green definitely has a stronger presence (which I want!).

Wear what looks best to you, not what has a gimmicky features that's replaced by phones.

I don't think it is necessarily trying to prove anything. The submariner, to me is the ultimate divers watch diving or not, and the yg submariner is the ultimate submariner. It just feels good on the wrist.

Simple. Some people and some love both. Me included. Some like the looks of the diver models, even though they will never wear them for diving. And that holds true whether they are steel or precious metal in most cases.

In the end, it's a luxury item and, as such, requires no justification of ownership. Just pure fun. Besides, I have enough thinking to do on my own behalf about which watch to purchase, without spending time wondering what drives others to get what they like.

First, there's owning a gold watch in general: Having a gold watch on your wrist has an incredible look and feel about it. I can't tell you about it...it's something you've got to experience for yourself. Now, I freely admit, this isn't for everybody. Not everybody wants it or experiences the joy when they strap one on. And that's OK, to each their own.

However, if you do like the look and feel of a gold watch, that's where I can make the case for the sub. The sub, with its glide lock clasp and super adjustable bracelet, is one of the most comfortable and adaptable sports watches in the line up. This is key when you're talking about wearing a gold watch...it's very heavy. The DD, which many members will tout as the 'proper' PM, has zero adjustability.

The timing bezel is one of the most useful functions for every day life I have found (and I'm no diver). Add this usefulness and the comfort/adjustability to the stunning good looks and feel of all gold and you've got a home run, IMO.

I get that it's not for everybody. But, I also think when you're talking gold watches, the sub is right at home.
Beautiful Pic!

I find it offensive that members would ask what PM Rolex owners are trying to prove. I own both a YG Sub and a platinum Daytona. Not being a fan or not liking a model is no reason to insult other members that favor PMs. I stopped caring what other people think of me long ago, but I am not a vulgar or showy person; with nothing to prove. I also have two Pateks with PM bracelets... Flame on!

A gold Sub...or GMT are perfect "prepper" watches...what better to wear into Armageddon. You're staggering across the desert...on the horizon you see a guy coming towards you on his camel...sitting behind him is his beautiful and she's holding an AK-47. And they have several canteens of water. You pull off your gold Rolex and the man takes it and gives you his camel, his wife, his AK-47 and all but one of his canteens. You go your way, he goes his way...win win.

Well if sub is your least favorite, then you will never understand why the love for that watch, much less in gold.

Some people go through a phase were they don't want to wear iconic watches because too many people wear them. Some day you realize that they are popular for a good reason and you are missing out just because you want to be unique.

Personally for me it is hard to justify the extra $s for PM, but if I was to splurge the White Gold Sub is magnificent to my eyes.
