Playing with straps.

It's a public holiday here in Singapore today so I've been messing about with strap combinations to see what works and what doesn't.

I now have a pretty good idea of what I want built next so please let me know if you think something looks particularly good or just doesn't work

Here's my 689 on the JV.

Can't go wrong with the JV. What killed me was the buckle was an extra $280 US. I have one on my 423. I have the XL which is 26x26. Not sure if the std length is 26x24. Vintager makes some splendid straps especially the Mauser ones.

Okay, so JV on the 737 and 689 are a perfect match for both....the black gator and white stitch on the 359 looks like a perfect match. I am not crazy about the asso on both 737 or 689, it works, but I find it doesnt accent the beauty of the dials for some reason...the dangerous 9 strap looks amazing on the 737.

It's a great combo but I think it looks best on the 359

This detailed response is precisely what I was hoping for! Many thanks, Nicholas. I let you know what I have in mind once I've had a few more responses, I don't want to give anyone any clues as to what I'm thinking just yet

The only one I'm not 100% sold on is the JV on 737. All other combos are excellent. I just love seeing your collection.

Could not agree more.
737 needs something bit darker to withdraw ( should be read: expose) dial colour.
Rest is perfect. Congratulations

Cheers,
Will

I think the JV strap pulls too much attention from the 737 and 689 dials. It's the light color that draws my eye to the strap first and then my eyes move to the dials. On the other hand, the Asso color tone is complimentary to the hands and muted enough that my eye is first pulled to the dial.

My vote: 737 on Asso is looking the best. (I don't think any of them look bad)

Of the straps you have shown, I think the JV look best. I am not a big fan of black on Panerai, and the lizard doesn't do it for me.
I would really like to see either the blue or green dial on some different colored straps. If I had the green dial, I would buy a red OEM as my Christmas combo!
Aside from that, I am partial to a more "worn" look on leather straps.

Can I ask, 3 of the straps I have (the original suede, rubber and dark brown) have metal rings inside but a black strap (also Panerai) has no rings where you slide through the screw bar. Should I take out from one strap and add if I use black or doesn't it matter? Thanks

For the 689 the best strap (for me) is the OEM dark blue gator with ecru stitching. Just looks huge quality!

I can't read this sentence with a straight face. Sorry mate, no offence, but no. Just, no.

You've really surprised me, Cru. I thought the JV on the 737 would've been your joint favourite along with the same strap on the 689.

I think a compromise is what's ultimately going to work best with the 737. Something lighter than the OEM but darker than the JV. At the same time though, the Asso can look a bit drab in dull lighting.

It's brand new and it does look a bit shouty but I think the JV will look a lot easier on the eye once it starts to patina.

Some of my OEM have rings inside and some don't so I'm not sure, Ed.

The OEM blue 'gator is total class. I do like the option to use others to dress it down on weekends though.

Thank you, Brian.

The more I look at the lizard on the 737, the more I like it. I've pinged an email to John at D9 for his thoughts and then I'm going to order another. For some bizarre reason, I'm having this crazy ass idea of a bright orange Teju but that's plain nuts, isn't it. Isn't it?
