SCAM ALERT - Banned Member xkurkox is back on TRF

A number of us sellers on TRF got a PM from "Jim Soloway" inquiring about our watches for sale. The scam goes like this:

1. Scammer sends you an innocuous email inquiring about your watch for sale.

2. Seller responds to the inquiry.

3. Scammer tries to redirect seller to a fake forum site and asks seller to log in to verify its the same item we are talking about. The site is a phishing site designed to get seller's credentials.

I did some searching and I think the guy behind this is a previously banned forum members with screen name:
xkurkox

His email is mackeldds@gmail.com

Move to the watchout section for more exposure.

It's great to warn the membership of the perils of internet interactions. Trouble is, we've been warning the membership for years on this very issue......and STILL people fall for the oldest trick in the book.

xkurkox is perhaps the newest (to you), but he is just one of a long line of previously hacked accounts also, and certainly not the originating. The real scammer name is an expletive I won't care to mention here..

Be careful out there! Don't click on links to signin!

Yeah, I tried to sell 8 watches on my own, the lowball prices and scam attempts, some which would have involved me getting beat up or worse, got me so mad that I gave them to a dealer to sell, since then we became friends, had bought a few from him before giving him mine to sell, if ever a buyer or seller needs a great dealer in the EU, can give his info, about 13-14 watches between him and me. And yeah these old tricks are crazy, everyone should know that, especially sellers or buyers, so many scams today!!!!

But there's twist to this scenario...maybe you didn't go to a spoofed TRF login page. Maybe you went to a spoofed WatchUSeek login page and you use the same username and password on all of the forums you belong to. Now this scammer/hacker has access to your accounts on TRF and other communities.

Now let's take this to the next level; you use the same username and password for your email accounts and banking institutions. Don't laugh, this happens far more than you realize. We had a member hacked where the hacker accessed his email account, figured out what bank he did business with and transferred all the money out of his checking account.

DO NOT use the same username and password for multiple communities and accounts online. Make these pieces of trash work for their ill gotten gains.
