I dont get the Skydweller frenzy
Years ago when the Milgauss came out everyone was chomping at the bit. They went for way over retail and now they can't give them away. Hype 101.
I know we want what we can't easily get. I know we want to be the first to have what others can't. So I will say this and likely get destroyed but here goes... The watch looks to me like a Date Just. Sorry but it does. Cool movement, yes. Integrated bezel as part of the movement, nice. Does anyone need a watch to tell you the damn month? I find that almost laughable. It's essentially a GMT. It's a nice watch. I would wear one. I like it on a strap. I would not pay out the old wazoo to get one. It just doesn't check that many boxes for me. No intent to offend anyone, just offering some thoughts on a watch discussion forum. |

Everyone has different tastes. I love my DJ, GMT and Daytona. No need for the SKY at this point. But the new SS Blue is sharp in pics.

Do you understand what an Annual Calendar watch does? Knowing the month is essential to setting the watch. The month isn't shown to remind the wearer what month it is. Your statement is laughable. It has the most advanced movement Rolex makes.

I don't think there is any great frenzy for the SkyD, just the usual passionate enthusiasm for a new Basel model, and considering its impressive complications and how the bezel implements them it is to be expected.

Ugh here we go. Keep it civil.
Truth is the watch price will come down. Believe it or not. There is no huge frenzy. Supply right now though is less than demand.

Come on OP... I understand where you are coming from but the similar arguments can be made for many watches. If you don't fancy the watch, just move on. These kind of threads often do not end well. |

They are selling the Milgauss for about $5K, which is about what they sold for new when introduced.
The SkyD is a cool design. I love the way it looks and the complications are amazing. More than enough reason for me to buy the watch (at MSRP, not $5k above retail). |

A vivid reminder of the range of personal tastes; for me it's a bit of a mess, or as my wife Remarked : 'Ugh, what's that.' Others clearly see it as fresh and exciting. The steel models are well priced, and it will hold its own . I feel a bit sorry for those who bought the precious metal versions, expecting an exclusive watch.
Rolex needs to avoid doing that again. They undermined some loyal and committed supporters. I have a PM Daytona, but the steel version was first, so no problem. Same with the smurf and so on. |

I find it amusing that whenever someone states, "no offense intended," or "no offense, but...," there's a zinger coming.
Great looking watch though, not my style. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's a comically large watch except for those with truly huge wrists.

The point of inputting the month is so the correct date is displayed all year, not to remind the wearer what month it is. The annual calendar is pretty useful IMO
It does look a lot like a DJ. Not necessarily a bad thing, considering the DJ is a big seller |

Rolex is not known for their complicated watches. However in the past, they have made triple date calendars and split second chronographs. So they certainly have the ability to make complicated timepieces.
The SkyDweller is Rolex's first Annual Calendar. Currently it is the most complicated movement that Rolex makes. The fact that you don't have to change the date every couple of months when the month is only 30 days long makes the AC more of a practical complication. It is not everyone's favorite watch. However the watch released in SS makes it a more affordable watch for a complicated Rolex. |

And that is why you attacked me? Get your facts straight before you open your mouth or type on the keyboard and you won't be made fun of. Now admit you didn't know what you were talking about instead of attacking me. Your attack on Rolex and my words about being laughable is called irony.

LOL. That's the one! No one ever says anything respectful after "With all due respect."
I think the Sky-D is a very cool complication, but not (yet at least) an iconic look. The future will tell whether it will become one.

After all, this is the Rolex Forum. The release of the stainless sky Dweller was quite a surprise for many and they're just hitting the AD's. I don't see an in proportionate amount of posts concerning the Sky Dweller. We need to appreciate the watch for what it is and respect our fellow members that have laid down hard earned cash to buy one.

Cool watches; they have a day function but no GMT (also pretty pricy pieces).
