We stayed at the Excalibur. This was back in 2003 or so. It was great for me, because at the time I was around 16 :) I personally had a great time there ! The hotel was huge, with anything and everything geared for kids (great if you have any, if not, skip this review entirely lol). They had a guy that was there that was guessing people's ages. If he was more then 5 years off, you won a stuffed animal. There was also a restaurant in the hotel where a magician would go around to all the tables and preform magic tricks. It was a really cool experience.

Then again, with all the other places to see in Vegas, we were only in our hotel for a short amount of time. We spent most of our time walking around the strip of hotels. (We went to the MGM Grand, Mirage, etc.).

A VERY fun time. Now that I'm 25, I should treat myslef and go back. I'm sure a LOT has changed since the last time I went :)

Places on the stip I've stayed over the years:

Riveria - older place with large suites. Was a long way away from nice places, but that has changed.
Excaliber - was an interesting novelty once... back in the day.
MGM - The room was about 1/4 mile from the elevator.
Harrah's - Just so-so.
Rio - Fun place, but off the strip. I went there for years until Harrah's bought Caesar's.
Caesar's - Nice. Very nice. The favorite from this list.

Four Seasons - Has it's own entrance but is on the top 10 floors of the Mandalay Bay. By far the nicest gym in a hotel that I have used and very quiet.. It is great since it isn't a casino but you have an entrance from the Four Seasons right to the gambling floor of the Mandalay Bay.

Wynn and Encore - Superb suites. They are first class all around.

Vegas rooms are anywere from a hundred bucks to over 6,000 per night, so maybe you want to define your range.........

A couple of months ago we stayed at the Venetian and it was really nice but practically impossible to learn your way around. Prior to that we would always stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. I think we'll be returning to that one next time.

Hotel Califiornia in 1969.....
here is the review

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Bellagio- quite, nice, a little older, restaurants were so-so, spa was reasonable
Venetian/Venezia- Rooms in the Venezia Tower are very quiet, inconvenient to get to/from the casino floor, great access to Bouchon, nice room/suite, great spa, better restaurants.

Only been once...stayed at the four seasons two years ago. I agree with the other poster- it's a gorgeous hotel on top of mandalay bay, but it's damn quiet (depends if you think that's good or bad).

YG DAY DATE! :)

Paris is an awesome hotel but the Wynn was outstanding. Million dollar view with floor to ceiling windows. Plus a lot of watches to look at downstairs.

Mandalay Bay - too far, as it is on the edge of the Strip area
Bellagio - the best, in my opinion
Las Vegas Hilton - nice, if you want a location OFF the Strip area
Flamingo - great location
Treasure Island - another one with a great location
Imperial Palace (I stayed here 20 years ago) - good location also

For convenience, location, and comfort, I'd stick with Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, or Venetian

If you like more upscale hotels-

Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Wynn/Encore, or Venetian/Palazzo

I was last in Vegas back in 1998' have stayed at Treasure Island, Monte Carlo, Luxor, and Mirage.

The Mirage was the best one imo, Luxor was the best bang for the buck for sure!

Platinum Hotel and Spa - just off the strip but rooms/suites have great views of the strip. Totally non smoking and non gaming( I know some might find this an oxymoron for Vegas, but we found it a welcome respite). Rates 3rd best hotel in Vegas on Tripadvisor.com.

There's only one : BELLAGIO.

Been in most of strip hotels except Wynn/Encore and the recently opened Aria
I've booked yesterday at the Bellagio for our Christmas stay. Nothing beats the Bellagio.

I can't believe noone mentioned my favorite....The Hard Rock Hotel.

Hard Rock Hotel: Pro: Great rooms with huge french doors that open pool side, music always pumping, terrific pool. Great crowd. Con: Off Strip.
Luxor: Pro Cool egyptian theme clean rooms slanted walls in the pyramid. Cons: older, not kept as well (saw a hand print on the elevator glass for the length of my stay) at the end of the strip
MGM: Pros: Beautiful hotel clean, great service. Con: At the end of the strip.

We select the hotel based on what we want to do. For a nice experience and if planning to attend shows, Bellagio and Caesars; if we want to relax and take it easy, Mandalay Bay. For shopping, Wynn or Palazzo/Venetian.

Bellagio was nice, but I was walking across the street to Paris if I wanted a simple sandwich.

The Palms.
Reason: if you like to have room to move and not be with masses of people. Fairly quiet place. Good accommodation the rooms are top notch and your only one bridge off the main strip.
The one downside of the place was their much ballyhood Simon restaurant. The walk from the hotel room to the restaurant is like half a mile. No joke. They even have the moving walk ways to assist you to get to the restaurant! The food their was a disappointment too. The next morning we ate at the restaurant INSIDE the Palms which was just fine w/o the walk. Also inside they have mini concessions like the airports. Cool.

the new Wynn or Belagio. I think it would be pretty tough to beat a room at the Belagio with a high up view of the fountains, and a visit to the health club......
