Yeah, I am pretty sure it was Mark, I haven't had a Gin and Tonic since College! I don't think I was drinking any alcohol that night unless it was a Baileys.

I flew Air France premium economy on their A380 with the fixed back. It's okay at best and because of the angle at full recline, there were times that I felt like I would slide down the seat.

How are the seats in the upright position? All things considered, would you say that they're better than the economy seats?

There is a video on Youtube showing the difference between premium economy and regular on AA 777s, I think it would be similar(?). The seats are bigger, wider, more leg room, three to an isle as compare to five for regular. Comfortable? I doubt it, but at least MORE comfortable then standard eco.

I'll be glad to give a full report if I live through the trip to Australia.

Lucky me, I found out next month I will probably be flying LAX to London... ANOTHER 15 hour flight

truthfully i prefer 10 hour + flights than 6-7 hour ones as its not enough time to sleep and it takes way longer to adjust.

You mentioned having Platinum Pro status, I assume you're flying on American for this trip? You may have already done it, but try to use the 500 mile upgrades to score a seat in business class; theoretically you should have enough accumulated. That should help you get to the top of the upgrade list.

All the other advice I would have is above. I fly LAX-HKG & JFK-SIN 4-5 times a year. Thankfully, my company puts me in business, so the suffering is minimal. If your company expects you to be productive when you hit the ground, they should do the same.

Not likely at this time of the year as more of the tracks are way south.

I am on the list, but it's a fairly severe cost, 25,000 miles and$350!

Since this company doesn't pay to upgrade you, sounds like you should have taken that job in NYC!

You may be right Clark... I have had lot's of job-related stresses these last few weeks, the one in NY was actually taken off the table, at least for now. My old company, called me and offered me one here in San Diego... but for about 60K less then I make now (I said thanks, but no thanks) and ANOTHER opportunity, VERY lucrative, was maybe not "offered" to me but discussed... I would LOVE it, and the money was good... BUT.... I would have to move to Seattle. ... .... ... Nothing against Seattle but I live on the beach in La Jolla California, kind of hard to give this place up.

There is a SLIGHT chance that one will come through.. I am petitioning to live up there two weeks a month... I doubt they will go for it.

It has been a VERY stressful few weeks

They're much roomier than the standard coach and more comfortable overall. For the little amount they charge for the premium economy cabin, it's worth it IMO.

Better seats and better food and booze. If you don't have Sky Priority from status, its included in the premium economy so you also get better service at check in and through security. Also, if you're connecting through CDG, you know that sky priority will cut at least an hour out of that hellish security line and passport control as you make your way to another terminal

That's actually a pretty good point... but when I'm not traveling, like today for example, I look out over the Pacific, enjoy the sunshine, post on TRF.... Don't think I could give this up.

Looks like you got the upgrade Paul? Enjoy it. I was going to say 25K miles and 350 is cheap for a 15 hour flight if its between PE and J(Biz) I have flown LAX>HKG and LAX>SYD and onto PERTH 6 times in the last 5 years, as well as more times than I can count from Seattle to London when my folks used to live there. IMO, J or F is the only way to go if you can swing it. I like to accumulate miles and cash them in a long hauls. This year I was able to fly in F on Cathay from LAX to HKG then onto Perth for 80K Alaska miles. Best 80K miles I ever spent. Tix would have cost me $16,000 each way. They serve Caviar in Cathay F. Only 6 seats :) On the way over we had 3 PAX up there. On the way back I flew Qantas 1st on the A380 from Melbourne to LAX. Great flight but not as nice as Cathay.

Anyways, what has always worked for me is drink lots of water, set my watch to my arrival city, sleep when I'm tired and don't try and force it when I'm not. Read a little, watch some movies, and walk around/stretch every hour w/out fail. I find I rarely have any problem adjusting no matter what the time zone. Sure I feel tired on and off the first couple days but thats it. I don't drink alcohol and I don't take pills so can't speak to that experience.

Safe travels!

Good to know. I am flying LAX-SVO in early October and decided to give premium economy on Aeroflot a shot. It was a very small difference in price over economy (<$400 round trip) and there seems to be a number of nice perks. I'll report back after the flight with what I thought about the seat comfort.

What airline is that? Is that premium economy? It looks more roomy than the premium economy I've seen from others.
