Rolex end links

In the past I have come across Rolex Submariners from the 1980's that have both holes in the lugs ( normal for the period) but also have end links that are slotted for acces to the spring bars. I have always thought the end links would be flush without access to the spring bars leaving access only through the holes in the lugs. Are these types of end links authentic or are they aftermarket? Did Rolex make slotted end links during that period for watches with holes in the lugs?

I just used that watch as an example, it's a vintage GMT.....not interested in it. But you see how there access to the spring bar? I have seen that a couple of times and assumed it wasn't correct.
