Breitling - retirement gift for a police officer

My father in law has always wanted a Breitling but would never spend that amount of money on himself. I want to get him one as a retirement gift.

He's been a police officer for 40 years and spends a lot of time in the outdoors. I was thinking of a Breitling Colt, but not sure which reference number?

Thank you!

Lots to consider here.
Is he a watch guy? Size of wrist? Auto or quartz? Used or new?

I think I’d go Avenger A17318101B1A1. I reckon there’s a bit of ‘avenger’ in anyone that has dedicated 40 years of their life to police work.

I’d also go automatic rather than quartz, just because. Really nice gesture for someone thoroughly deserving.

ETA- also go Avenger for the wings logo- will possibly be important if he’s liked the brand for a while. It might also be on Colts too- I should’ve checked before editing....

Nice gesture!!! Whatever you buy, I'd suggest getting the clasp or back engraved with the date of hire, and date of retirement. Hey Sgt. Moderator, your input???

Yes! Great idea. I would also add his shield number if he had the same one his entire career.

As far as watches go I like the Aviator 8 Day-date. Great go anywhere do anything watch. Simple and rugged in design like an old field watch yet nice enough on the band to wear on just about any occasion.

Very nice idea to do this for him.

Great idea! I got my father-in-law a DJ41 for Christmas after he retired. I think it moved me past the disappointing sons in the family ranking.

Wonderful ideia. If he is a big guy with big wrists, there are lots of options. If otherwise, some classic models as well. That would be where I would start.

My grandfather was NYPD for 35 years. Never met him, but I have his badge -
A wonderful gift for your father in law would be the Breitling Avenger in Titanium - it’s around $2900- worth every penny and, like I said, a well deserved and wonderful gift for your wife’s dad....
