Question on PAM 048 date...
Hello all,
I bought a PAM 048 second hand a couple of years ago (has the ETA 7750 movement) never had any problems with it and it’s been good as gold. Just to get it checked over and to get a new strap, I took it into the Panerai boutique for a full service. Opted for the official route as a service was a lot cheaper than the Rolex service prices I’m used to. Got my watch back and all was fine, as suspected service picked up no faults. Then I noticed it... The date advances at 10 to midnight rather than on the hour. I’m convinced I would have noticed it before now as well. I don’t think I would have hurt the mechanism by using the quick set function incorrectly either as I’m so careful about doing so (learned the hard way with a very expensive mistake on a JLC triple date). So my question is: 1. Is this normal? 2. Would the service centre have missed something so obvious? 3. Does it indicate damage? Really appreciate your thoughts! |

It’s been a while since I had a 7750 watch but many watches start the date change prior to midnight. My Lemania 5100 starts changing date at 11:00.

The date begins engagement in the 9pm zone and finishes at 12am. When the date actually flips can be individual to the watch. When you pull the crown all the way out to the 3rd position and advance the hands around to the next day, when does the date wheel flip??
I haven’t noticed when my Pam 104 (movement OP III) flips over but I am pretty sure it was a few minutes around midnight. Just had a routine service by Rikki on it so I will have to check again. It’s a excellent and very accurate movement. Update: Mine flipped over at 11:59 pm |

I don’t have answers to your questions, but can say that my 7750 Panerai flips dates pretty much exactly at midnight.

Thanks for the advice all, in the end I swung by my local AD. Their resident watchmaker took a look and confirmed it’s totally normal for the movement to do this. I can relax now, thanks again for kind advice.
