That was great, watched this gentleman a few times.
He led me to get a DIY Watch building kit a year or so ago (kids asked me what I wanted for B-day). He makes it look somewhat straightforward and I'm fairly dexterous, I wear reading glasses, but I was basically blind trying to work on building the watch. I ordered a movable light magnifier and it was much better, but you really have to have finesse. Putting hands on a watch was not a fun experience...lol. 1958 GMT, when he opened the caseback, the movement was so well preserved, even started moving again, just shows you how well built these watches are and the reputation of being bombproof tanks. Thanks, that was great to watch. |

At least the third time this has been posted on TRF in a few days LOL. Very nice but read the longer thread where the experts share some thoughts.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Interesting that the watchmaker thinks the dial might have been refinished, even though the radioactive lume seems to be original. Not sure how both of those things can be true. Who knows. One nitpick: Not crazy about that sharp-edge service crystal he installed. A domed crystal would be so much nicer. |

An amazing and detailed video of a movement service. I've seen some of his videos before. However I would like to see a video on actual case refinishing - not polishing but actual refinishing with restoration of the angles etc.
I'm also curious about why he thinks the dial is refinished. |

The dial font is out and has no footer whatsoever hence a repaint.

Ah, OK, but how could the dial luminous be original, or perhaps it's not? It showed very strong readings on the Geiger counter and looked good under UV, with a match to the hands. Although I suppose the dial/hands could have been relumed with radium too.

Yes no idea, perhaps, Geiger is lower than I expect though as an original reading. I had also had a head scratch on the insert too tbh which looked a bit off and Geiger was low reading.

Just discovered this guy’s channel a few weeks ago. Truly some amazing work and so helpful for learning. Unfortunately he makes it look really easy!

I can’t believe he tried to remove a Bakelite bez. I would have just left it in there and polished the crystal out. Anyway, the guy is just an excellent teacher and I watched all his videos
