Panerai still makes some beautiful watches.

You can always buy a 005 again at a decent price.

I like some of the designs of Panerai (and I do own one, from way back when) but after the whole PAM 318 Brooklyn Bridge "Speshul" Edition scandal...and the way they handled the fallout from that, I have a very hard time supporting Panerai in any fashion. If they had offered a REAL apology, rolled some heads (because this was worthy of it) and actually took care of their customers, that would be one thing...

...but no, to add insult to injury, not only did they sell a "Special Edition" with a movement that isn't even as nice as the fake and homage Panerais, but when they were finally shamed and pressured into offering a movement swap (with a proper one...allegedly), the customers had to pay for shipping and insurance both ways! I mean come on...they already slapped the customer's face and now they kick them in the nuts?

I don't know how anyone could support a company that would do that to their most loyal customers. Their downturn in the market is WELL DESERVED.

Nothing wrong with some Panerai love.

Winter is when I get going with Pam as I don't really like wearing leather straps in the summer.

Just read about that...thanks for mentioning...did not know about that scandal. Other issue I heard was Panerai made cheaper new models with spring pins and snap case backs.

What is the purpose of these comments? My mom always said, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

Rolex and Panerai have a long history together, and they go great together today in a collection.

Improviz, I think your "triggered" sensor might be set to "11". I took it as WJGESQ asking for clarification on which ones were cheap now a days...ETA vs. the in-house ones...I don't think it was a criticism of Panerai using ETA movements. That's what it sounded like to me anyways...but what do I know? I couldn't afford Holiday Inn so i stayed at a Motel 6 last night..I hope this rash goes away....

Yeah like many others, I agree that these were cost cutting measure to increase margins. Richemont is the WORST luxury conglomerate that I can think of. They basically take these neat brands like IWC, JLC, Panerai, etc., kill their souls and whore them out..then all you're left with is a hollow brand name/label.

Well, if you search back through his posting history, he has a habit of trolling posts and bashing Panerai, Tudor, AP, Patek, and pretty much anything else other than watches he owns (Rolex and Omega). He got threatened with a ban for repeatedly going to AP forum and trolling with negative posts about AP.

And yes, this includes bashing pieces with ETA movements as well:

Is there any real point in paying 4-8k or even more for ETA based watches?

Yes OP, Pams are toxic for sure. My Rolexes have been sitting in the box for months now.

Btw how is the Rubber b for Panerai? I got Rubber B for my Rolexes and find them on the thinner side.

I actually think the original Pam rubber is pretty awesome. Got a brown one on my Cali today

Fair enough.Didn't know he had this "history". That being said, I don't completely disagree with the points he brings up about Panerai (and I own a Panerai...just down to one now). I guess I'm just an equal opportunity critic. They all deserve some criticism...some more than others and some well deserved (like the PAM 318 debacle and the lack of ownership by Panerai).

Maybe revisit the autos? Felt the same with the thickness of the automatic movement until Panerai started making them thinner such as how the thinner 1312 replaced the 312.

Big fan of both Panerai and Rolex. They look great on you. Can't go wrong with the rubber strap also.
