Ah, the inconsistencies/subtle variations of Rolex that drive us all mad. Most of us know the different variations of this beautiful piece: different insert fonts, different insert colors, different dial hash marks, etc... Enjoy some group shots I took today of a few pieces I have

:

Watch on left is a Y966XXX with a lime green flat 4 insert and a Mk 2 Dial.

Watch in middle is a Y946XXX with a non lime green flat 4 insert and a Mk 1 Dial.

Watch on right is a V61XXXX.

Thanks Jason. Well in all fairness, the V is in the FS section. The Ys are keepers though!

Lol, I wish I could! Actually, the lime green Y is part of my regular rotation. Just LOVE that lime color. Funnily enough, my brother has another Y946 and his does have the lime green insert, albeit with a Mk 1 dial. Go figure!

Great thread, so many green variations.

I have a friend who owns a Y serial and his insert is not lime, just like your second Y serial.

D and Z serial also feature a very light green insert as well. My D serial, under day-light and no artificial color touch-up.

Man. Ys. My grail LV. Had a Z. Now have a M and a V.

Had a chance about 3 years ago to buy a used Y in Tokyo. Lime green bezel. Beautiful. No box or papers but the orignal receipt. They wanted $4500. I passed on it because it had a small small rust hole in the bezel.

Interesting to see you have two flat fours there, and from my understanding on the serials of these, the flat four was fitted to a three tick Maxi dial originally, correct?

Hello. The majority of Flat 4 bezels seem to be fitted to watches with the so called Mk 1 dial that has 5 ticks under the Swiss Made, like the Y946XXX above in the center. My Y966XXX watch with the lime green insert on the left seems to be one of few that I have seen with a Mk 2 dial with 3 ticks. I have seen a few other Ys with the flat 4 and the Mk 2 dial, but many more seem to have been fitted with the Mk 1 dial. I use the term "many" loosely as well as there are not too many Ys floating around. As we always seem to learn though, there are no real strict rules about this stuff when it comes to our friends at Rolex!
