I just got back from vacation and will have an update in the next couple of weeks. I have to get time off of work to authenticate the watch.

Genes240, I have watching this thread with some interest. I, like everyone here, wish you the best and hope that this is the real deal….

BUTTTTTTT, as some with experience in finding a rare Rolex and having people question its veracity, I find it difficult to understand why it has taken you soooo long to get it authenticated. I had mine authenticated in less than 5 days.

Honestly, if I were toting around a watch that can conservatively bring in at least 175K...if not more…, my butt would be in Andrew Shear's or Bob Ridley's place ASAP. I would find a way!!! I would not wait a month and a half.

Once again, I hope that your watch is genuine, I really do. Please do not treat this gem of a piece nonchalantly. It is a Rolex legacy piece!!

I wish you the best….Now get your booty moving and authenticate the piece!!!

The Cops know that a genuine Rolex has a serial number. They know that Rolex can trace most stolen Rolex. They also know that they cannot put a counterfeit item into an auction.
They would check the authenticity of the watch before placing it into the auction.
I just can't buy this story yet....
On the other hand it would be so nice if it were true.

Agreed. I don't see anything noticeable wrong w/ the pics posted so far. However, I don't understand how ANYONE would let ANY Rolex go for a few hundred bux, especially one that looks to be in good shape. As someone mentioned earlier, it takes 2 seconds of Googling the words on the dial at a bare minimum, and you'd see the watch is worth thousands; if your intuition didn't tell you that already just by the Rolex name.

Unless the OP shows some scans or pics of his receipt from the police auction, I don't buy it one bit.

Guess I am just more gullible and hope that the OPs story is true.

Maybe just me but I think this whole story is BS!

He has been told that if genuine the watch is worth over 100k and he takes pics of it with the crystal leaning against a brick wall.

Also again he has been told how much the watch could possibly be worth yet he won't take time off work to get it authenticated.

If it were me I'd get it authenticated and if genuinhe take the next 10 years off work!

I think people just like to post these sort of stories to see who falls for them.

I hope I'm proved wrong!

As has been said many times, there are just too many anomalies surrounding this tale, for it to ring true. We all want it to be the find of the century, so that we could fantasize that it was one of us who found it, but it smells mighty fishy. Oh well, fingers crossed!

I read the same thing in earlier posts, but a couple of the TRF Oracles have identified it as some type of transitional model DR that stated DR on the face, but did not yet have the HEV.....this was completely new to me too....very interesting on this site and I learn every day!!

All this depends who turned up at the police auction at the time , for many people this watch would just look an old and tired watch .
The police will check the serial , that is if they know where to find it , against the list of stolen watches and not for authenticity .
In Europe goods at police auctions are sold " as is " and authenticity is not guaranteed as such . I ignore how this works in the US .
Most people also know that there are plenty of fakes about or if they are in need of repairs it can be expensive and therefor not bid heavily on such a watch .

The fact that the OP is dragging it's feet on having it authenticated may seem strange . Maybe this person is not short of a couple of tenths of thousands of dollars .

All by all , I'm not betting against this not being another hoax that's for sure .

I read this thread with interest and right now I read it as another hoax (or story telling to get members all worked up) unless proven otherwise.

Yea, thats true. However most of these police auctions (at least the ones around here) and liquidation auctions attract mostly the same folks, regulars if you will. These guys seemingly know the general value of everything. Hard to believe no one was willing to pay more than $350, even for a tired looking Rolex. I dunno... Probably best to let this thread die unless the OP posts verification.

Once again, how many you guys would drag your feet in getting the watch verified. This person goes on VACATION and now has to find additional time off work to have the watch examined by an expert??!!!! IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. As the days go by, the stink gets worse!

The only thing that is keeping me from shouting out "it is a hoax" : We have had some vintage specialists looking over the pictures and none seem to come back saying that it is fake . Also this is an extremely rare piece and if the pictures had been taken from somewhere else , we could expect the same specialists to know exactly where they came from . None of this has happened so far .
Just my 2c on this .
BTW , I'm still not betting on it .

I just want to see more pictures of this thing! If I had a potentially ridiculously rare and valuable watch I wouldn't waste a second to see what I had. But other people have different priorities for sure. I can't wait to see the end result either way.

I really agree with everything that you guys are saying, but am HOPING beyond hope it's the real deal.....

Devils advocate....suppose ANY ONE of us found a watch (assuming little knowledge of Rolex) and you posted on a forum where the members told you that it may be worth $100K or more.....how long would you really wait to have it verified....take a vacation....wash your hair......'Forrest Gump' it across the US a couple of times....have a baby....get a degree.....oh-wait....I should get that watch looked at!!!

Unless I missread (which is entirely possible) I'm sure somone posted that a similar watch went for 170k at auction.

Exactly what I was thinking Paul, but much more cleverly said than I could manage.

Who said you Americans don't do satire?

You do it well

PS. the pics against the brick wall were the tip-over point for me. I hope the OP laughed so hard he pooped his pants, cause he had a number of us hooked. What it really proves is what a great place TRF is, everyone here showed a lot of restraint and respect to a first poster with an unbelievable story.

Obviously if he was smarter, he wouldn't have made all the subtle errors everyone has picked up on. Appears he is not very bright.
