Hey, Rac. Good to see you here.

Look on the secondary market, they come up. A boutique is certainly not going to give you a discount and you will pay sales tax on top, unless you have it shipped out of state and they are willing to do so. You can get them below retail (but not much below) and likely mint or very close. So unless you just have to get it brand new, I would keep your eyes peeled for on on TZ or somewhere similar.

Best of luck with the journey!

Hey, Nick! You too.

You still have your 15400?

The last 4 or 5 blue dials to come up in the classifieds from trustworthy sellers have been been a few hundred above MSRP for used and few grand over MSRP for new ...
  • Used - $18,500 - Bought Aug 2017 - Link
  • Used - $18,025 - Used H Series - Just serviced - Link
  • NIB - $19,795 - Link
  • NIB - $19,900 - Link

Makes buying new from a boutique at MSRP with the full 5 year warranty look pretty good.

I sold my 15400 when I got my blue 15300, the 39mm just fits me better and really like the blue.

I am sure they all listed that high but not sure they necessarily got those prices, they all seemed to sit a bit and then sell. I would keep your eye out for one like these and ping the sellers with an offer, see what you can get. But if you cannot score a deal, do the new one and it should hold its value well. My 15300 is definitely worth more than I paid for it about 1 year ago, seems to be trending and cannot see why the 15400 version wouldn't do the same.

Altho not the most important factor there is no point pretending this is not an increasingly important factor, blame the brands if you really have an issue as they dictate the supply and thus prices of the market. These watches aren't cheap, so prudence is the better part of valour.

I definitely think blue is the way to go. You're right, they probably didn't sell for ask, but they are close enough to MSRP or above MSRP that buying from the boutique doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Agreed. It's not the most important factor, but it's a factor. IMO, it seems foolish to buy something that expensive without considering/understanding the current market.

I don't know about you but my father would have killed me if he had ever dreamt I was spending this kind of coin on watches. We all need someone to keep us in line, even here in fantasyland.

My father has the same reaction. He's worn the same DJ for the last 20 years ... I've been working on convincing him to pick up a black 116500 ... one day!
