Getting milk delivered by a Milk man. I don't know how many times I went to a supermarket for a couple of pints of milk and came away with a full shopping trolley and a bank balance lower by 50 or 100 pounds.
Buying eggs straight from the farm.

I like being married.
And it's fun splittin' the loot as it comes in, just not a fan of splittin ' when the split happens.

He would get out with his metal bottle carrier that had 6 bottles in it and would come to our house and then cut across the lawn the neighbors, and the horse would walk along the street keeping pace.

Next you will be telling me that you stopped having window cleaners. This is true, until recently, I used to leave the milkman monthly payment under a flower pot. Now just send it straight to his bank

Some people actually had a milk compartment by the door but we were poor so he just left it on the porch.

I can attest to this personally. That one hurt. But zero regrets. I had a responsibility to fulfill, and I did it to the best of my ability.
I am saving a ton of money by not drinking. I also go out to dinner far less, so I’m not spending (and therefore saving) money there. And while Brian made the distinction about how to invest money, I specifically save money now by sending my FA cash at the beginning of each month. A few months ago I began a quest to make my monthly nut as low as possible. And right now, it’s exceptionally low. Shockingly low really considering my lifestyle. But that’s because I have zero debt. So all of my monthly fixed payments are based on that premise. Besides taxes and maintenance (I live in a condo) costs, I have my various insurance costs and that’s about it. My condo has 19’ ceilings and is very hard to keep warm. Instead of jacking up the heat, I’m being more strategic about it. I’m also wearing Warner clothes inside than I used to. Therefore saving. So I am spending far less than I used to. I then take my surplus and give it to my FA. Because I’m content with how I’m currently invested, which is very conservative, I am now taking that surplus and investing it more aggressively. I’m going to buy a place in Florida and live there 6 months and a day. So I’ll save on state income tax. That, instead of my jersey shore house, will save me a fortune as RE taxes in Fla are a bit less than half of jersey. I passed on two watches this week. I’m getting far more disciplined with how I spend. I’m saving because I no longer make crazy impulsive purchases like I used to. And again, I’m the taking anything surplus and both saving it and investing it. This might sound crazy coming from me. But I’m also saving because I’m finally content with my car situation. So I’m no longer looking to buy any cars. However, I admit it cost me a lot to get there. However, and this is a huge however, I did the math. Everything I lost vs what I made on a deal or two, and spread that out over the last three years and I’ve been in a huge amount of cars for a shockingly low monthly nut.

Start paying for everything in cash. Watch how fast you curb spending when you realize how much you are actually spending.
As far as savings. 1 Year I Bonds are 7% right now, with a max of 10k. Buy some 6 month treasuries or even easier, scoop up some 12 month CD's. Some are paying over 4%. |

i don't eat eggs, lowered my soda intake, avoid obvious high-inflation foods...
Soda prices are highway robbery, as are eggs and... If only there was a stable currency somewhere in the world that held its value, but there are none :( Oh, and Wal*Mart is your friend. Here's a great way to save.... 0_n.jpg

Don’t have a stay at home wife and kids. Between school, sports and dance it costs more than a Rolex every month.

And with the economy the way it is, I’m lowballing offers. The decent places are all sitting. Price cuts are starting. The awesome places are going fast. Amazing some of the judgement calls folks make with their homes and the style they put into it. Looking between Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach.
