Quickset date wheel turns both ways?

I recently purchased a pre-owned Rolex Ref. 68273 31mm Date-Just quick-set for my wife. When setting the date, I noticed that the date wheel can be turned either direction and the date will advance or retard. I don't think this is usual, because on her lady date-just, the date can only be advanced. I believe that the Ref. 68273 has the cal. 2135 movement. Has anyone ever seen this? Does this indicate that the watch needs repair? Thanks.

Wish mine did that. I can only advance the date.

There are 2 different versions and then some of the 2135 the early models you could set both ways the later models only forward. There's nothing wrong with your watch enjoy. Rik

Thanks Rik. I guess I should have mentioned that the watch is an "R" series (1987). Does this make the cal. 2135 an early model? This is a nice feature. Do other Rolex movements have this feature?

I believe that the movement in my wife's "E" series (1990) Lady-Date-Just is also a cal. 2135, and the date wheel only advances.

Yeppers it's an earlier model don't know exactly when they made the switchover but probably early 90's. No only the ladies had this feature the 3035 and 3135 and 2235 only forward calendar. Rikki

The 2135 was first introduced around 1983 right up till very late 1990s then the cal 2235 was introduced to present time.
