It's all part of enjoying our watches. Thats what this forum is about. Everytime I buy a new watch I share it with the forum as well as when I have a question or concern. I spend more time here than on facebook.

Yes, especially under water. Had it been any other watch, that buckle would have gone through like a butter knife.

Thanks for the picture. Very interesting to see. The crystal is thicker than I thought.

Rolex should come up with screen protectors like those for the IPADS!

However, while scratches, scuffs, dings and dents on the metal don't bother me, scratches on the crystal drive me crazy.

I'd go ahead and have it fixed now, if it were me.

There is no way that you'll ever be able to ignore that.

You must also consider if the scratch compromises the integrity of the watch's water resistance, if you use your watch to swim or dive.

Even if you don't, what happens now, if you bump it against something and it shatters?

Then you have a whale of a problem.
Or a "shark" of a problem...guess some guy scratched his belt buckle against this tank's glass covering...

Sorry to hear about that. If it were me...I'd probably live with it until service. But I have a relatively high threshold for this kind of a thing.

And I'd recommend that you stop drinking "fraps". Those things are awful through and through!

Hey Cleveland Steamer - that Zagg is just a thin shield over the crystal - the same company that made thin shields for helicopter blades, I-Phones, and now watch crystals.

I had a chip in my DSSD crystal. The replacement crystal is $280.00 plus labor. You will have to send it to an RSC that has the pressure tester for the DSSD, not all RSC's have the capabilities to test it once repaired.

I haven't taken the time to read every response but it took me a few minutes to find the scratch. It's really not that big of a deal...crystals are easily replaced and shouldn't be too much. Just replace it. And perhaps you shouldn't wear it when you drive....just to be safe. jk. ;)

Dude...HARDLY an epic fail. You bought the "toughest of the tough" watch and you're all bent out of shape over a scratch? You're supposed to be rugged type guy with this watch. Ease up, chill out. If you're going to fret over scratches, get yourself a day-date. I mean, what would you do if you were, say, diving at a depth of 12,000 feet and scratched it on a coral formation?

I cannot believe that a sapphire glass is scratched by a soft metal. Are you sure that it is a scratch and not a crack?

i wouldn't call a seat belt 'soft metal.'

remember that it needs to withstand the impact of a vehicle experiencing a rapid negative acceleration, like 100 kph to 0 kph in two tenths of a second. a soft metal would just shear apart, but i think a seat belt would probably survive it relatively unscathed. human probably not.

anyways, long story short, i can believe a seat belt could scratch sapphire.

So try to do a scratch to a piece of common glass. I doubt you will succeed.

Thanks to all members and TRF for your input as it has helped me move on and enjoy our watches as we should.

...and at least I got my avatar picture out of it thanks to the Joker. It will surely be something to remember this day.

Sorry to see that scratch in the crystal!

Personally, I couldn't tolerate it, so I'd have the crystal exchanged... I do respect you're going to live with it, though!

Anyone has the exact price for a replacement DSSD crystal?
