I understand that it is a difficult decision. I personally like more the 5990.
The 5712, if the rumor that they will discontinue it soon is true, may be a good investment...

If you don’t have a nautilus the 5990 is a fine watch. If you realize how thin the 5711/5712 is, I agree the 5990 looks and feels very chunky. Same issue with aquanauts and the new 5968.

5990 can be bought from AD , and 5712 can’t or it’s incredible hard. 5990 retail price with the AD is 53k ; 5712 grey price is 50k . In that scenario makes more sense to get 5990

Grats!! You are going to love it, it's really a special piece. I'm still frequently amazed at how well it goes with just about any outfit or occasion.

Funny, exactly why I didn’t buy the 5712...felt too light and too thin, like a toy to me.
A little chunk and heft may be a good thing

compared to the 5712A the 5990A feels almost like a design plunder. too thick, the gap between the pushers on the left side is really ugly and the dial is boring. but that is just me:::::))))
the 5712A is just perfect. i understand that some people prefer a heavier watch, but then i'd recommend to go look for a 5980A on the second hand market.

Not sure how you can say the 5990 is too thick, but the 5980 isn’t?

Also apart from the 5980 and 5990 being the same thickness, for all intents and purposes, I found the 5980 sits a bit high on the wrist due to the caseback size, whereas the 5990 sits flatter.

according to the patek webpage there is a difference in thickness albeit little. but somehow the 5990 feels more chunky, at least to me.

As an update, 55k was a lot but boy was that a good investment. Selling for 90+ now, which I find astonishing.

Im not so sure they are selling for that.....

If someone offered me 90K for mine right now, I may have to let it go.

Probably 70-75k. But still u are up... better than being down

We are talking about the 5990?

If it’s the 12 you are probably in the 60 range

These are asks price... the dealers are buying watches at about 20% discount to the lowest price u see on chrono. Or 15-20k above msrp....So u can negotiate.

i tried before negotiating on 5990 and 5711... honestly have not seen so much flexibility at all... even now, i have not seen any grey dealer, including on chrono willing to go below $100K by much.

I think dealers are offering around 70-75 on the 5990.

Sounds about right.

Softened a little bit, just like the rest.

I agree with Nayazec. It has softened a bit but 5712 (new) is still going for about 85 and 5999 for about 95.
