Hi guys, just wanted a bit of help with this 16550.
I was under the impression that all cream dials with white gold hour markers came with a rail dial.
So am just wondering if anyone knows more specifics about the 16550 cream dials.
Also what do you all think in general of this piece?

The dial looks okay to me (and that's probably your greatest concern). No, not all cream dials were rail dials.

The bezel appears to be original and in good condition.

Not sure about the hands, but you can deal with them if you need to.

Looks Clean to me. Verify the serial number and if it has box and papers you are lucky!

Huge thanks everyone and great pictures. It is a full set with box and papers. Rolex serviced recently. And also has original full bracelet and clasp, hang tags and original reciept.
As far as rarity, which is rarer non-rail or rail?
And as far as price goes, I see some fluctuation, from around £8k up to £14k.
Where should the price be a piece like this?

Relative rarity is probably irrelevant. The ignorance of the market-place will always make more seek out the rail dial as the "accepted norm" and therefore prices for that will be firmer.

For what it's worth, I believe the non-rail dial to be less common.

I've seen them go for well under £10k and well above, but each watch has a unique condition / history / accompanying accessories, such that it's hard to be much more precise. How often will one get the chance to buy a minty full set, if one presents itself?

So guys over the last week, I have gathered as much information as possible, from references and yourselves. Thankyou all for you input.
And today I have been back and purchased the 16550.
Everything about the watch seem to check out perfect. From the dial, hands, bezel, bracelet and clasp. It is full original box and papers, both hang tags, original guarantee, original wallet with calendar in and original booklets. Also just back from a service at Rolex this month.

I am very Happy for you! IMHO I believe the Non-Rail Dials are harder to find thus more rare. I have one too and looked for a long time and really researched them.

8-9 mil serial should have the rail cream dial. Non-rail cream are later and can be found on the latter 16570 EX.

As far as rarity goes, there are instantiate claims either ways.

Just such for what were sold in the market, the rail cream goes for about $9K-$14K whereas the non rail goes for $7K-$9K top.

I can tell you that the rail but not cream are the rarest of the bunch. you don't find them often.
