What causes small chips on the Inside of Inserts?

Is there a known cause for the small chips on the Inside Diameter Of Rolex Inserts? I’d think the Crystal would take any impact before the Insert.

Perhaps on some occasions it may be caused by people trying to remove it incorrectly.

X2. I’m inclined to think if corrosion was a factor, you would see more of a pattern of corrosion on the insert.

I think chips such as that are caused by self inflicted damage
