Glad I can help, Jason. The retaining wall and associated landscaping added an unexpected $20K to the build. When all is said and done, I'll be between 20 and 25% over my original budget due to unforeseen expenditures and "might-as-wells."

The carpenters have almost finished the front entryway. I love the detail and the big pillars. One beam still needs facing, but they ran out of material this afternoon. The peak is almost 20 feet high. Kind of has a ski lodge appearance.

After seven days of construction, the boulder retaining wall is almost completed. Almost 300,000 pounds of boulders. The builder places them like puzzle pieces.

That home is absolutely outstanding. Such a wonderful example of perfection. Well done indeed.

Here are a few recent photos. The landscaping is done, and the No-Mow grass is starting to grow. All that remains now are the gable accent structures and the asphalt driveway. I've been trimming dead branches from the Norway pines and cutting and burning the downed trees from the driveway excavation. I love fall.

Here is the south side of the house. All of the mechanical inputs and vents are on this side.

The view from the back of the house. We are about 35 feet above the river and pond.

I finally cleared the garage of construction equipment enough to get both vehicles in the garage. Dan is coming to get everything out tomorrow.

This morning's fire before the rain began. This is a clearing in the second lot I bought to insure that I never have nearby neighbors.

Deer come into the yard daily, usually at dusk. There is a power line on the far south edge of the property and these two spend hours every day sitting on the poles.

And finally, here is my new granddaughter, Lotta Jae, born ten days ago.

That's the most well-thought out project I've ever seen! Thanks for posting all of the photos. What a perfect garage workbench nook!

Super congrats especially you were able to acquire adjacent property. When my sister built her first house, there were still vacant lots for a few years. The luxury of undisturbed view ... I like neighbors close by, but not too close by. :-)

Congrats on your Granddaughter too! We had our first child this summer, and what a blessing children are.

Children and now grandchildren have been the best part of my life. Nothing comes close.

My father is mesmerised by our "Bella".

He constantly keeps telling me, something re-wires in an "old-mans" brain when he gets grandchildren! (His first)

Deer come through the yard every evening at dusk. Mrs. Chitwood is an animal lover, and she has set out a feeder full of corn. This is the doe and one of two fawns feeding tonight. The other fawn has a bit of ADD and doesn't stay in any one spot very long. After eating, they head down to the river in the background for a drink.

It's ready. And come deer hunting season, you won't even have to get out of bed to get your deer.
