Short Hills (NJ) Mall watch stores

We find that the staff of Omega Boutique is very helpful and the staff of the Cartier Boutique is very disinterested in me and my wife. We own multiples of Cartier and Omega watches.

In other mall watch news, Orologio and Tourbaillon are outta business! Other than this group, I think watches are a diminishing interest.

With the smart phones and younger generation, yea I agree. Heck, I know people that are 25+ years old and cannot tell time on an analog watch... heck schools are not even teaching kids how to write in cursive anymore

There’s a Sydney Thomas in that mall as well. Some of the salespeople there are quite knowledgeable and others are like sharks when you walk in

Wow. Ok.

Omega trains their people well. So yeah.

Carrier, they are just snobby in general. And I personally can’t figure out why. I’m personally shocked that the brand survives. They were awesome about 20 years ago. They haven’t updated since.

The rest...that’s sad to me. But not overly surprising.

I’m not a huge Sidney Thomas fan. But they are the real deal. Lee Perla is my ride or die.

Some of the Sidney Thomas people have been very nice to me. But I’ve never bought anything there and I don’t like to bother people a lot if I am not buying anything. So I am hesitant to go in there for fear of “Here’s the guy who drops in a lot and never buys anything.”

But they have never hinted that they would discount anything, so I did not proceed down the purchase road with them.

Lee Perla is a nice AD. I’ve bought a lot from Govberg in Philly.

I thought that omega boutique was amateur hour, not for me. Sidney Thomas is the only thing worthwhile at short hills. (For watches)

Sydney Thomas is the worst. Smarmy salespeople and very aggressive. Plenty of other ADs in the area that are much better and not aggressive. Used car salesman is what Sydney Thomas employees are refereed to.

Lee Perla Jewelers in Hackensack Mall is excellent for Rolex and Tudor watches. Ask for Rick.

I bought a Cartier watch for my wife by calling them directly a couple years ago. They were very helpful and courteous. A pleasure to deal with.

Andrew is one of the best guys going at Omega— Used to work in Hackensack boutique and now he’s in Short Hills

The OB at the Short Hills Mall has always been aces with me. Everyone I've talked to there has been a WIS himself. Very helpful crew all around as well.

It is on the upper level near Nordstrom’s. If you are an Omega owner and you tell them about your collection, you will have a new best friend.

My wife owns two Cartiers, I owned one until last week, but there is nothing we can do at the Cartier boutique in Short Hills to get anyone to talk to us, even if it’s to say I am working with someone else, but I will be with you soon. We are used to superior customer service, so to be ignored is jarring. Has happened 99% of the times we’ve walked in. If we were secret shoppers, there would be a lot of people looking for a job. PS: Cartier boutique in NYC has been very nice to us.

If you don't mind me asking, which one in NYC? I believe there's a few there.

I went into the Cartier at the Short Hills Mall and no one said a word to me. It happened to be a busy Saturday, and I was just window shopping so I didn't mind, but their selection of men's watches seemed to be lacking.

I would like to try on the new Santos, but I'm still pretty young (mid-20s), so I'm a bit self-conscious that they would not take me seriously.

Patricia at Sidney Thomas of Short Hills is very nice and knowledgeable as well. Last watch I bought there was my first at that particular store and I inquired about a Rolex pen but she only has hats. She said she would mail me one that she has at home and sure enough she did.

I met the wristwatcher once when I was there. He liked my Everest strap (this was when Everest was much less known). Nice guy, fun to talk watches with. It’s a nice store but I’ve also never bought there.

Agree 100%, Cartier is like... well... you know.

I’m baffled by the attitude as well. Maybe that’s all they really have left in brand equity and train their staff to behave that way.

Last time we were at Short Hills we stopped by Cartier to check out a Tank as a beater for my wife. They ignored us completely.

Eeeek @ Sydney Thomas SH. I’d rather not buy a watch if I had to buy from there
